It’s great little vacuum but…

Let me first say, great vacuum I have a cat and I didn’t realize how much hair was on the floor and this little vacuum did an EXCELLENT job picking up the pet hair and other things in the carpet. I run it everyday and it does a great job.BUT… A couple of things that could be improved on..When I bought it, I thought I could “set it and forget it” I was wrong.. you have to babysit it because it will “get stuck” and it will tell you it is stuck when there is clearly way for it to get out. It was tangled up in my dining room chair legs. Also my apartment is less then 900sq ft and it gets 75% of my apartment in one charge. Which is about an hour or so. Then it will charge and then it will go back and pickup the other 25% most of the time. One thing in the instructions says it will go directly to the charging station if there is less then 15% battery charge remaining. I have yet to see that.. when it gets low. It will bump into everything as it goes back to the charger. I thought that was very odd.Another thing.. the vacuum collection container isn’t large, in my opinion to small. In the beginning I had to dump it often. Granted it was full of cat hair but I thought it would have atleast alerted me that it was full. You have vacuum proof the house.. Here is what I mean, stated earlier I have a cat and cats have toys to play with. The vacuum pushed his toys around or tried to suck it up. I wish it would have known that I’m running over something and turn off the suction and keep going. It sounds trivial but it does recognize when it’s wheels are off the ground. One last thing.. when something gets stuck on the bottom of it and I have to pickup the vacuum it says “it’s being picked up” please return it to its home location. Why? I just picked it up. Can’t it just continue along? In summary.. as long as you can live with the idiosyncrasies then it works great. I’m keeping mine but in a couple years I’ll upgrade to a better model.

Okay, I’m impressed.

I bought the Eufy G30 specifically for cleaning the bare-concrete floor of my full, unfinished basement, which is covered with free-standing shelves, floor jacks, power tools, laundry equipment, and a small gym. Because of all the things that must be vacuumed around, under, and between, cleaning the basement floor thoroughly with a canister vacuum takes more than an hour out of my life, so I figured a robotic vacuum would be a big help. I was not disappointed. The G30’s running time is about 100 minutes, much of which is spent thinking and backtracking. Still, because it is not tethered to an electric cord, it can move easily and clean thoroughly. Watching the machine problem-solve its way around obstacles is fascinating, even a bit creepy.Note that you need to spend time preparing the area to be vacuumed.• Mop up any wet spills.• Tie up cords, cables, curtain pulls, and loose fabric.• Fold fringe under area rugs.• Block areas where the robot could get stuck.• Secure or remove items that could fall on top of the robot if bumped. You’ll also need to monitor the robot the first few times to prevent any mishaps that you didn’t foresee. The robot itself needs a substantial amount of maintenance. Instead of a dust bag, it has a hard-plastic compartment that must be emptied after each use, and the filter and brushes need frequent cleaning and periodic replacement.A robotic vacuum is not a substitute for a conventional one, which you will still need for cleaning drapes, upholstery, and areas that the robot can’t reach. Also, a robot’s deep-cleaning ability on carpeting cannot match the power of a good canister or upright vacuum. Still, a robot’s results may surprise you. My advice: Before buying any robotic vacuum, go to the manufacturer’s Website, and download the owner’s manual for the model you’re considering to see if it meets your needs.

no remote control, only smart phone app

I can't give it a more detailed review because I haven't used it yet. It works, but I've been unable to connect to WIFI so I haven't operated it as a vacuum yet. Eufy's support is responsive, but a little rote. I chose to go through the chat, which doesn't pretend to be other than a bot and provides live chat after it gets some information and makes reference to the FAQ. The live chat gets more information and then passes you on to a technical expert. The tech asks for more information about the purchase order and serial number and then asks questions about the wifi setup, particularly firewalls. I get the impression that wifi setup issues with the device itself are uncommon. This Eufy G30 itself is very well built and comes with spare parts. There is a voice response for some actions. It has only one of the 3-brush side brushes while other brands commonly have 2 side brushes - but my sense is that it isn't a problem because of the way it is programmed to cover the area. I would keep it if I could get the app to pair with my Amplifi Alien wifi. I paired an off-brand Chinese robovac to it yesterday, and it currently is attached to 15 devices on its wifi mesh, many of which connect seamlessly to its 2.4 GHz wifi 6 band. This is the first time I've encountered a problem. It's been 3 days with tech support now, and the weekend just started, but I will wait until Monday to see if they have a suggestion of something more I can do to connect with the app. This Euphy connects very well to my iPhone 12 running iOS 15.5, but the app reports a network error whenever I enter my network info into it. The password is correct. It may be an issue with my COMCAST Business or Sophos cloud firewalls, but I can't fathom how the Euphy app triggers that, and am inclined to think that, if it does, in this case, I don't want it. To be honest, it's going to be a hassle to modify those cloud firewalls. I spruced up my Google Mesh network to optimum operation (it runs like a dusty old spiderweb but everything still works), which has twenty 2.4 GHz devices running on wifi 5, and the same thing happens. In summary, this is nice hardware, no mop, big bin, side brush, decent tech support, but the app may have some kung-fu line of code in its handle that triggers firewalls in rare cases. One other beef, the voice sounds like an angry mother-in-law. I'm inclined to think it's a solid product and a deal at the price I paid and I am sorry that I'm probably going to have to return it.

Works well; some “babysitting” needed

I had an issue with the first unit I received where the rolling brush motor died after only 30 minutes of cleaning. However, I was able to get a replacement sent through Amazon. The company itself was responsive via customer support, but the first solution involved me replacing the motor myself, which seemed doable but tedious. Fortunately the replacement arrived quickly and the new unit has gone through two cleaning cycles with no issues.Overall I’m loving this RoboVac! I got it because I have several cats and long hair myself and wanted help picking up the hair and litter on a regular basis. So far, it has done just that! It doesn’t get every bit of litter, especially the stuff right in front of the litter box, but it makes a big difference. It also cleans well in hard-to-reach places like under the couch and other furniture. It picked up a horrifying amount of hair it’s first go-round, and the rolling brush needed to be cleaned. So if you expect it to pick up a lot of hair, definitely keep an eye on the brush so it doesn’t get stuck. It wasn’t bad the second time, but I still expect to clean it more regularly than the user manual suggests. I was also a bit skeptical about the cleaning pattern when it first started cleaning, but it did end up cleaning all the rooms well, so that was great. It takes about 1.5 hours to clean the entire floor of my house and does it on one charge. It is slow, but much more thorough and very convenient for me to just let it run. It’s surprisingly quiet too and didn’t scare my cats into hiding. It does need a bit of “babysitting” in that you’ll want to check which obstacles it has trouble with and move stuff out of the way. I have some rugs that it has trouble with even though they aren’t particularly fluffy. Also, since I have cat stuff all over the house, I pick it up because the first time it drug some toys around for a while. If you don’t have much stuff strewn about, you can probably run it whenever without worrying. I’ll have to pick up stuff before I run it, but again I’m glad to not have to vacuum. The side brush pops off a lot which is mildly annoying, but it seems to clean fine without it. If you pick it up to put the brush back on, you have to bring the vacuum back to the home base which makes the whole process slower, so I’ve just let it do it’s thing and put the brush back on later.

Died in 3 months without warning

This unit was a bit of a bust. after just three short months, the 'smart' vacuum stopped operating and now can only offer up its baffling "Error S1, battery error....." mantra. This was after completing a cleaning cycle and docking itself the day prior. Despite attempting to troubleshoot with customer support (including taking out the battery for 30 minutes!), it appears that this machine may be in need of serious repair...let's hope the Support provided inbound battery can prove otherwise. The Good:CheapDecent navigation capabilities,BoostIQ,Spot cleaningLow profile allows cleaning under furniture such as couches and sofas.Bad:CheapWill sometimes force it's way into a stuck position especially under furniture such as recliners where the front clearance is higher than the back. Not to worry, this vacuum will desperately rotate in place and spin it wheels, scuffing the floor while trying to complete it's mission of getting stuck under said recliner. You *must* remember to block restricted areas and close doors otherwise you may come home to a power cord tangled up in the rollers.Does not work with magnetic strips meaning you may need to set heavy objects in random spots to prevent the vacuum from that area.Would I purchase again? NoPrior to the unit dying unexpectedly my only complaint was having to block areas with physical objects or keep doors closed. However, I will (hopefully) get this unit fixed and give it away. By then I will have purchased a more reliable unit with better features.Update 12/19/2022:New battery received and the unit is back in operation. I still find it a little unnerving the battery died in 3 month's time.Overall this is a decent unit and I can't really complain about the cleaning capability given the cost. I wish the collision detection was better or at least have the ability to save the map to avoid major obstacles on future runs. Also, the Support Team is great which is a good thing because you will likely need them. However, as previously mentioned I upgraded to more capable unit with Lidar that scans the area on the initial pass and allows me to perform a full, room or zone cleaning operation. Costs a bit more but you have to ask. How much is your time worth? I no longer have to block off areas or search for a stuck device when I return home. While I still have the RoboVac G30 it has been mostly retired and given a small confined area to keep tidy where it cannot get into any trouble.

Can’t schedule multiple runs per day

Overall, this is a great little vacuum. I wish I would’ve returned it though because I need it to run multiple times per day automatically and you can only schedule it to run once per day. You can tell it to run from the app as many times as you want, but I have it set up in a small kitty litter room so I would like to be able to set it to automatically run every couple of hours to keep the litter in check.

Great vacuum, good customer service

Love this vacuum! It does better at cleaning than my other robot vacuum. I like that I can set the suction level, schedule cleanings, etc.It died two days after the warranty expired. Initially they told me they wouldn’t be able to replace it but I reached out to them and they made an exception. Seems like it was a battery issue.

The brains make all the difference!

I’m mostly comparing this device with a similarly-priced Deebot I purchased 4 years ago.Y’all look the sameI bought this to replace a Deebot I had purchased 4 years ago for a similar price. I was skeptical at first because it appears that the product design for all of these robotic vacuums is identical - excluding the newer Roombas with dual center brushes and the U-shaped ones with the brushes in the front. When I unboxed the Eufy and compared it to my old Deebot, the design and appearance was identical - except the Eufy had only one edge brush while the Deebot had two. It’s all in the brains!Even though the two vacuums I have to compare look identical, the quality of the experience is completely different!Rarely gets stuckMy old Deebot would get stuck constantly. It would seek and pull out any clothing item, cord or cable, pull it out, and drag it around until it got completely stuck. I did my best to arrange my cables so this wouldn’t happen. I neatly Velcro’d them together and pinned them against the wall with my couch, but still the Deebot couldn’t resist going under the couch, brushing them away from the wall and dragging them out to choke itself with. The Deebot could never be trusted to operate without adult supervision. On the other hand, I’m delighted with Eufy’s ability to avoid choking. Here are some of the hazards Eufy is able to manage:Lightweight and thick bathroom rugs - I have no idea how Eufy avoids getting smothered by these every day. It somehow vacuumed them up and leaves them in place.Cat toys - never once have I had to play tug-of-war with Eufy over one of theseExposed cables - I can leave these out anywhere and Eufy even pushes them back against the wall neatly if I accidentally pulled them out. This may be the genius behind having only one edge brush instead of two.Thick shag living room rugs - Eufy traverses these with ease and keeps them looking fresh every day.The signature lines of a fresh vacuum jobThis is what I tried to capture in the picture. The selling point that made me decide to get Eufy over the entry-level Roomba was its ability to vacuum systematically instead of at random and I’m so happy with my choice. When Eufy is done, wherever possible, it leaves the neat signature of a fresh vacuuming job done with intent of purpose.Always finds home baseFrom my experience with the Deebot, I have this learned behavior to help the vacuum find its home when it shows signs of exhaustion. I had to focus to restrain myself from doing this when I first got Eufy. To my delight, Eufy has always managed to find home no matter what room it finds itself when needing a re-charge.Getting better and betterEufy/anchor is a brand I trust. Hearing that they started out as a couple of former Google employees. They didn’t start their project from a point of scarcity, but of passion and interest. Every product they set out to create is to improve upon the existing products in the market and it shows. Eufy only has a couple of models of robotic vacuums which means they are actively developing and improving the software and firmware they use - rather than to come out with a newer version every year and require a new purchase to get the latest features. I’m excited to try out the rest and resume feature released in the last firmware upgrade which leads me to:Stamina could be improvedThe dustbin and battery life of this unit make it unable to vacuum my entire apartment in one session. I will say these two components match each other in that when the battery is drained, the dustbin needs to be dumped. I haven’t seen the complete layout of my 900sqft apartment as Eufy sees it yet and I’m hoping that tomorrow will be the day now that rest and resume has been enabled.

Herbie the Eufy robovac is doing a good job so far. Eufy won’t sell you replacement filters.

Edit Edit (7/28):I received a kit from Eufy today after they contacted me about not being able to secure replacement parts for the robot. The kit they sent me is part no. X002AO0L9P.They also sent the following part numbers you can try:filter:B07W6WF7BSkit: B07W5VZRRWside brush: B07CWSS5GZrolling brush: B07CWRQK6MI’m guessing it takes the same parts as another robot and they just hadn’t updated the product listings yet and the person I first spoke to at Eufy didn’t know what they were talking about. Anyway revising my review up to the original 4/5 I gave it. The robot is still going strong and picks up a good amount of dust every day. I had planned to maybe reduce the frequency of the cleans but it is so unobtrusive I think we will just let it do it’s thing daily. It has got caught on an iPhone charging cable on 4 different days but the only way to solve that problem would be a divorce.Edit:I tried to buy replacement filters/brushes for the thing and they aren’t on their website. I contacted Eufy and they said “well it’s only been out a month”. Apparently the only way to know when they deem it appropriate to sell consumables is to check their website every week. Annoying, I want to buy some and forget about it. If your product is on sale then the consumables should be on sale, dropping to 3 stars until I find out they are available.Original Review:We’ve had the little fella for about 10 days now. It’s our first robot vacuum so don’t have anything to compare to but so far we are happy with our purchase. I paid for the promo code before release so did get the $120 off the price of the thing. I’m super lazy so it had a test ahead of it, but it’s done well so far and the whole house feels so much cleaner. I replaced the threshold from the kitchen in our home as it was too high for it to climb over, and it has got stuck in a couple of places. Our house is crowded with stuff so it has a lot to navigate around. Places it has been stuck: under my guitar amplifier, turns out the wheels are exactly the height of the vac so it has wedged in there; after getting wound up in a charging cable so be sure to keep all wires out of its path. I like that I get a notification on my phone if it is stuck so I know I have to deal with it. It does push up the lightest rug in our house but it just bunches it up and keeps going. It’s not a high traffic area so I’m not worried about tripping on the rug but for safety i’d be aware of rugs being pushed up. A heavier rug seems to be no problem for it, just bounces right up on top.I have been emptying the tray every day and after starting off almost full it has reduced down to a much smaller amount so it’s clear it has made a big difference in only 10 days. When I first saw the brushes it uses I was a bit skeptical expecting something a bit more robust, but it has picked up some things I wouldn’t have expected it to be able to. My wife’s long hair seems to get wound around things a bit so if you had a pet or a human in the house with long hair I imagine a more regular clean of the brushes would be a good plan. The little map it draws is pretty cool but I find sometimes the map freezes during the clean and will not resume. The light on the thing says it is still connected to WiFi and it can still be told to do things but the dot doesn’t move on the map. It doesn’t interfere with the scheduled clean and it still makes its way back to the base but it’s a bit annoying not to know exactly where it is when you are supposed to have that map.I was comfortable to buy an Anker product as I’d used their phone chargers and cables and I have a battery for my Nintendo they made and they have all been great products. When working in Germany I was evangelizing about their chargers and was told that their stuff is cheap and nasty. That’s not my experience at all, their products so far for me have been of good value and the one time I needed a replacement for a faulty phone charging cable they were swift to replace it.
