Bought for our 10-year-old Grandson. It is a good quality set for the price! We like the extra queen, and the elastic straps to hold everything in place. The finish on the board is quite good, and shaping/carving on the pieces is acceptable. Pieces are not weighted, but are acceptable.

Overall it seems to as nice as you can get for $20-$30. The inlays on the board are real wood. The pieces are hand-carved real wood. The pieces are a bit irregularly shaped, for example, the white king in this set leans to the side. But, the hand-carving does give it character as I'm sure no two sets are exactly the same. It is kind of large for a travel set but certainly would be at home in an RV. The only negatives are: - no padding on the bottom of the board so I added self-adhesive felt to each corner to ensure it would not scratch furniture - the latches stick up just above the top of the board when open and if you flip them down they will scratch your tabletop Overall, an excellent everyday use chess set and nice gift for a beginner.

Love it! But I wish the pieces would be heavier.

the wood is very light, would not feel right for avid chess players, but great for the 12 year old boy

My God son and I play this together very enjoyable.

This is a fine chess set for the price. I'm teaching my kids to play and wanted something magnetic so the younger one doesn't toss the pieces everywhere. Pros: - price - extra queen - pieces look nice Cons: - cheap board material and doesn't lie flat

The middle bulges, from the hinge.

I was excited to get this in the mail but was super disappointed when I opened it to find a cracked piece. Overall the board seems to be a great one for a beginner like myself.
