It works alright. Definitely does the job but the hardware feels a little suspect. One of the plastic hinges bent in some moderate wind, but that might have been my fault because it was left open for a bit during a storm.

I like this umbrella but I found that the adjustment handle on the side doesn’t work the best. If you want the umbrella about halfway down or adjusted, the handle tension doesn’t hold it so you’re left with the choice of all the way up or all the way down.

I just got this umbrella today and set it up. I had one almost identical to it that I bought three years ago and needed to replace because the material faded. I was very happy with that one and decided to take a chance on this one hoping the negative reviews were just people who didn’t use it right. I can say that the very first thing I noticed is that this umbrella uses significantly cheaper materials that my old one. The plastic is very flimsy. The metal appears to be lower gauge as well. Once set up I noticed that the entire frame structure was flexing in the wind, where as my old one would swing at the pivot point but the pole assembly did not flex. Even the pole locking handle has noticeably more flex lending a perception that this unit is very delicate. The cover on the new one seems good and the lights work well however. Unfortunately, it does not sit straight. It tends to lean back due to some oversight on the design where the back end of the umbrella hits the pole casing it to lay crooked. A more serious disappointment was the pole securing mechanism. On my old unit the pole slides into a lager diameter pole and is locked in place with two thumb screws. There are two metal posts that stick out keeping it from sliding all the way in. They rest on a plastic sleeve that will rotate on top of the larger pole, allowing you to loosen the thumb screws and pivot the umbrella 360 degrees to wherever you want shade. On the new one the posts rest in a cut out in the larger diameter pole that locks it into place. It will not pivot more than a few degrees. This is a disappointing design as you really cannot move the umbrella much at all. It provides shade for one area only. While this may stabilize the umbrella better in wind so it doesn’t pivot unintentionally, I think leaving this up in any wind would be a mistake anyways due to how flimsy the materials are. I would have much rather have the pivot option. Time will tell how it holds up and I will be sure to update this review with any durability observations, but if you need to swing the umbrella around a the base this will definitely not work for you.

I purchased and returned this umbrella at the end of September 2020 and it worked all of a month and now it does not go up and down.
