I dislike products that work intermittently. When the Tile DOES work it give me a false expectation that it will ALWAYS work. The failure/perform rate is about 50/50--and I think I am being generous with that ratio. The most common message I get on the App is: "This Tile is not in range. Notify When Found." Who am I supposed to notify? It is so unreliable I guess when it actually helps you find something you are supposed to notify the media. I sometimes get this message when my Samsung Galaxy 8 and the Kindle, which I attached the tile to, are sitting next to one another. Leave the Kindle in another room? Good luck. The Tile is also supposed to have a feature where you press the Tile button twice and it will ring the phone to which it is attached. Seems handy but alas, about a 50/50 performance; even when in close proximity. Just to make sure the Bluetooth on my phone has a range of more than 14 inches, I paired a set of Bluetooth headphones with my phone, started some music and walked into the next room where the Tile was hiding with my Kindle. No problem. I am a big advocate of product feedback and often use the comments in my buying decision. I have no axe to grind with Tile, I am not writing a poor review because the delivery person crushed the box or some other unrelated nonsense. It just doesn't work consistently enough for me to get sufficient use of the device. I'm glad I didn't put it on my dog's collar. I know there are others who like this product. Maybe I got a bad one or my expectations are too high but if you ask me--spend your money on something that really works. Consistently.

Update #2 (12/10/19): The screen on the app that forces us to turn the Location Services to "Always on" has "magically" disappeared. Perhaps they are listening? I'm going to leave my rating at 2 for now. I'll see how this plays out. Update: I went a few rounds with Tile, pointing out my points, below. They don't seem to care, and continue to be focused on what THEY need, not what the customer needs. So, unless you want yet another app on your phone that tracks your every movement and does whatever it wants with the data, I'd stay away from Tile. This is a shame. It was a cool product. Until they decided that the customer was the product. A week or so ago, I booted up the App and saw a screen I had never seen before. The screen insisted that I change the "Location Services" setting for Tile to "always on." The App would not let me proceed to finding my items until I had done so. As I recall, Apple has insisted that Apps allow users to have control of these settings and I had Tile set to "While Using the App." That way, Tile was not tracking my Location when I was not using the App. I wrote to Tile and we are going back and forth, with them insisting that having the App on all the time is important. It may be important to them, but it should be up to users to decide. I fear that Tile is simply turning into another company that appears to be about providing a service, but is in fact, just another company trying to monetize our whereabouts. This is a slippery slope and Tile seems to be sliding rapidly down the hill. If they don't fix this, I don't plan to buy anymore Tiles.

I only got this thing to work a few times and when it did, it was okay. I had a lot of hype going in on this product since it was a startup years ago so I was excited when I finally got this. Things took a turn for the worse the day I got it and thought it was just one item, but turned out to be bad for both the keychain and the slim. The whole functionality was awful, including the app. When I tried to find certain items, nothing rang unless I was about a foot from it, which is almost never the case. One instance, I couldn’t find my wallet while camping (close to cell phone towers and had LTE) and thought that I left it at the gift center so I tried ringing for it. The app kept telling me it was last seen at the gift center a few hours from when I was actively looking for it so I spent an hour there. Turns out it was in my tent all along and the Tile failed at its job. When I used the actual Tile to ring back and find my phone, I never get a response back. Alexa compatibility was obsolete which was infuriating because that was one of the great features I was looking forward to. The slim is also very fragile and apparently not constructed to withstand the pressure you use to sit on it. The slim broke within days and was still able to communicate, but you pay all this money for it to be in your wallet and it can’t even structurally support what it’s designed for. Overall, this was a terrible experience for me and I hope that others heed my warning and beware. I will not be recommending this product to anyone and have stopped using it.

Update: There is no way to clear your location history data. Aside from the clutter, this is a privacy and security issue. Remember that unlike GPS units which you turn on and off as you need, the tile app has to be on all the time to work. Their privacy policy makes it quite clear that there is none when it comes to your tracking history. It can be shared with third parties. So your routes, hang outs, store preferences, the locations of your friends, members of your congregation, clients etc. are accessible to and shared with third parties, for whose privacy policies or lack thereof, tile takes no responsibility. Hello Dark Web. I have disabled and discarded these tiles and uninstalled the app. I guess I’ll just have to be more careful with my keys and stuff. Original review Frustrating product. I had the original tiles, without the replaceable battery, and liked them other than the battery part. When they died after a year, I got another finder with a replaceable battery which worked great, other than an occasional tendency to ring for a lost connection when that setting was not actually enabled. So after 3 years when the replacement finders wore out, I reverted to Tile, with this version. Which I now regret. The tile app has to actually be running. It doesn’t work in the background. So if you close all apps on your phone for any reason and you miss the nag notification to restart the tile app, your tiles are not connected to your phone. And similarly, If you turn your phone off, and you start the app after reboot, it doesn’t log you in automatically so your tiles are not connected. Then it takes a few minutes for tiles to connect to your phone. Exasperating when you are running out the door and urgently need your keys. The time between pings is too long. If you enable the lost connection feature, you can be a considerable distance away - a 2 mile drive or 200 yards walking - before you are alerted. This might mean you’ll be 20 minutes late for a meeting for having to drive back home for your wallet, or too far from your dropped GPS device in the middle of the woods, to find it from the last contact point by calling it... while you are in the thick of a search and rescue mission. (Last contact point could be100 yards before you dropped the device.) There is no way to acknowledge and silence the notifications. So they will continue to bing every so often until connection is reestablished. Very annoying for all when you are on a run with friends. The app is also plain annoying with nags screens to subscribe to premium when all you want is to find a tile in a hurry.

This is the strangest review that I've ever written. I recommend to buy the Tile because at it's basic level, it does exactly what it's supposed to do very well and it's plenty loud enough. It cool in that the App can help locate the key fob and the key fob can help locate the phone (even in 'Silent Mode'). I haven't had it long enough to fairly rate the battery life or the durability fairly at this point. However the replaceable battery is a common one and I have plenty of spares around. I wouldn't normally write a review having only a day of use, but what's bad is really really bad and needs to have attention brought to it. The really really bad happens to the the App and following is why: 1. It's a Bluetooth device and instead of pairing through the phone's setup app as most BT devices do, there is an unusual and somewhat confusing BT pairing via the App setup process. It can be lived with, but due to a 'Premium Subscription' feature, this also makes using the BT device with multiple phones limited in functionality and the App overly complex by requiring 'Family Sharing' on the phone to be enabled. Just allow the device to pair to whatever phone already. 2. This one is going to cost a Star. The App setup requires you to 'register' an email address & password. You then confirm your registration via a return email to you, where you have to enter a PIN into the App in order to complete the Tile app setup, very similar to how you would register a Netflix or Amazon Prime account on a Smart TV. The only reason Tile could possibly want this information is for marketing purposes and up-selling the monthly subscription service . I don't need to be spammed to purchase more stuff and BT devices simply do not need email information to function. 3. This single 'feature' is going to cost Two Stars, it's that bad... Once installed and functioning, there is a nag-ware popup within the app that seems to appear at random times to beg you to purchase a 'Premium Subscription' version of the app and totally blocks the ability to use the app (find your keys) until you acknowledge it. It cannot be disabled by checking a 'Do not Display this Again' box as this does not exist). This is tasteless shameless behavior on behalf of the company. Someone with enough pull with in the Tile organization needs to step up and have this removed. I'm never going to purchase a subscription for any BT device and I don't need to be begged for more money every single time that I use the app that I already paid for. If you need to find your keys or phone, it's a very useful tool. Just be prepared to be let down by totally useless junk and BT limiting features in the app, if the kind of things that I mention bother you. Due to the 'Premium Subscription' feature that you are getting what I'm going to coin a LF-BTLE (Limited Functionality - Low Energy BlueTooth) device.

So either we got a defective pack, or Tile is just outright lying to its customers. We got a four-pack, put one with my Nintendo Switch, one on each of our two cats' collars and one on our luggage bag. As the title says, the website and description promote that it comes with a 150ft radius. FALSE. These things can't even get picked up by my boyfriend's, my roommate's or my own phones' unless the tile is barely 7-10ft away, maximum. When we went to pick up our luggage from a belt a few weeks ago, it didn't pick up until we were already almost directly next to our suitcase - hardly making the jingle any help at all when it finally connected well enough to ring. We thought this would be useful to put on our cats' collars for when we let them out in the afternoons, but it also hardly makes a difference, as we also have to be almost directly next to them (7ft max) for the Tile to pick up, and then completely next to them (5ft max) for the Tile to even connect well enough to ring. If I'm downstairs and my cat is upstairs, even then it has the hardest time recognizing that the Tile is even nearby! Absolutely unacceptable. Then they promote local-community tracking - what a joke. We live in a pretty active city and my app states that there are over 3600 tile users in range of our home, but this feature has NEVER done anything for us. I'm pretty sure that if my Nintendo Switch /was/ ever stolen, I would absolutely NEVER see it again, as these things seem almost entirely useless. My black cat has lost her collar twice now. Thankfully we found it both times, but again, it was barely 15-25 feet away from our home and we had to be almost directly next to it for the Tile to even pick up, let alone ring. My grey cat came home for the first time without her collar last night. I thoroughly walked the entire complex grounds and my boyfriend thoroughly walked the neighborhood around it. Nothing. What a waste of money. Now we're a Tile short and require another $40 to replace the Tile, the collar and the tags that the tile was supposed to make sure we wouldn't lose. The only reason why I give it a 2-star rating rather than a 1-star is that, when calling for my cats near the end of the day, I suppose it is better to be squinting about without glasses in the dark than to be permanently blind - and that's how it feels using these products. I appreciate them to a minimal degree, but not enough that I can actually ever recommend these things to anyone. Useless. Wish the Warrantee sheet promising a 1-year warrantee that came with the box actually had any warrantee information on it. Can't find any warrantee information on the website either. We've only had this set for 5 months. A total disappointment. Pity we're missing one now, or I would have hoped to get a refund or warranted replacement set. Would like to see if the Pro's are any better, but I'm afraid that I'll probably end up being just as disappointed with a lighter wallet anyway. Would kind of like to try one of the slims for my passport, too, but I'm sure it also would be a disappointment, by the chance that it gets lost or stolen in Japan, this summer. But hey, the batteries haven't died yet! ...Yeah. Not a good product. Dishonest advertising. Don't waste your money.

These tile devices work only half of the time...usually they don't work until I loose something cant find it and use the locator app only to find that I have to walk around looking for what the tile is attached to in order to try and find it because it does not chime....The app will say nearby, or how many minutes ago and where it was at like another street even if it is not there at that location and you took the device that the tile was attached to to a new location. for example, Yoou got into your car with your car keys that had a tile on it, you dorve to a friends house across town the tile was working there, now you drive home and pull in the garage and leave the keys in the car or carry them into a room in the house or something and when you realize they are not on your person or where you hang them you use the tile app....HEre is what you get.....Locating, Notify when found, (another useless feature that will notify you when your tile is already found), you get a connecting status (and it never connects so you cant ring your tile when you need to find the object.... Sometimes after I find the object and am directly in front of it the app still does not see it! as it was today when I left my phone in the bedroom and tried to page it...I walked all around the house retracing my steps trying to think of what and where the last call I made was about, I remeber I called someone at dinner time which proved it I did not leave it at a friends house on some street (as the tile app may tell me that it was the last place that it was seen) this could be alarming and make me jump to conclusions.... Anyway, finally I remember I had made a call before taking a nap... after searching the whole house and vehicle anyway as I went around paging the cell phone by pressing the button on the tile I went to the bedroom and looked for my phone... there it was on the floor by the bed ( and not over on some other street where I was 5 hours ago at a friends house!!!...I pressed the button on the tile device...... STILL NOTHING!!!!....I checked the app which was running and when I checked to see what tiles where active I found that it was "Locating the phone" when it says locating it does not mean that it is in the process of getting back to you because you paged it....IT means that it cant find it and is therefore not functioning properly for the very basic feature it was designed for....these tiles have let me down continually especially when I need to find my devices that they are attached to when I am in a hurry....I spend more time trying to get them to work right so much so that I would advice anyone that if you use them and know that you will be working all around a house carrying items with the tiles attached to them to check the app to see if they are visible and test each device they are attathced to while it is in your hands....Which in some cases this will turn out to be a frustrating process because the app will give you the connecting, locating, or last seen mumbo jumbo while it is still in visible sight to your eyes.... What Junk!!!!! Another frustrating feature is that other tile users will notify you where your tile was last seen if you select notify when found which is another almost useless feature because I keep getting notified of places and locations long after I manually found the device with the tile attached to it and they are not on Sulivan Street, Or Baker Street or any other street where some one else saw them and decided to "help me out" via the tile community app by reporting there last location...... I still did not buy any advanced features and wont....I am not going to upgrade my phone to the newest operating system and mess up my phone and loose all my settings that I cant even look up to save which took me about a year to configure to get my phone to run right without being a distraction and disturbance to me.....These tiled devices can be more trouble than they are worth at times..... sometimes I think I would have been better off just getting a cheap whistle type key finder. Here is a link to one one amazon to save you money and spare you grief of the dissappinting tile devices that only work half of the time, cost too much and frustrate you while you are anxious about finding the devices that you attatched them to....I feel like going back to these myself. https://www.amazon.com/Kole-Imports-Sonic-Finder-Flashing/dp/B000BT4R1I/ref=pd_sbs_201_t_1/144-8475157-9761133?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B000BT4R1I&pd_rd_r=61ccb867-f29a-4ca8-8cca-f7eb7381662a&pd_rd_w=dckGh&pd_rd_wg=1SPAR&pf_rd_p=5cfcfe89-300f-47d2-b1ad-a4e27203a02a&pf_rd_r=X2EYRQ54GMT8X7TQSZGD&psc=1&refRID=X2EYRQ54GMT8X7TQSZGD
