Smash Bros Tested, Kid Approved!

Love this controller. I bought 2 originally so my oldest son and I could play on the Switch together like we did when he was an only child and gamecube was still new. The controller is true to form! It's a little light, so the buttons are bound to wear out in a few months solid Smash Bros and S*** Talk. I order 4 more for my youngest 3. If they take to the controller, we'll certainly be back for another bundle! #DadMoments

good controller, but a few problems

this controller is lovely, exact same form factor as a traditional gamecube controller, except it has an extra Z button on the left side (left bumper, whatever it's called), and the R and L buttons are fully digital, not analogue. the one problem i've had: i've been playing super mario 64, paper mario TTYD, and a few other similar games on emulator, and one of the actions involved in regular play (for bowser throws in 64, tube mode in TTYD, hammer swing in TTYD) is spinning the joystick around in a circle as quickly as possible. within a month of having the controller, the wear from doing this has made the joystick squeaky whenever it's pushed upwards and moved from side to side (like rubbing between 1 and 2 on a clock face) i've tried all sorts of things to help this, i've cleaned it out with alcohol, nothing works. i've got to look for the package materials to try to take advantage of the warranty, i hope i didn't throw them away.

love it, wish it didn’t need batteries to be swapped out

I love it, it’s a very similar experience to using the OG gc controllers. The battery lasted longer than I thought it would got around 2 months but still, the only downside to it is the fact that you have to replace batteries. Wish it had an option to be plugged in to charge even if the controller is $10/15 more.

What's Not To Like? Two Things

I don't use this controller for Smash, and when I do I don't play competitively. I simply like the feel and look of a GameCube controller. I wanted this mostly to replay Super Mario Sunshine without having to deal with a cord or the bulk of an original wireless one. This controller hits every mark except for one: L and R sensitivity. The L and R buttons in the back (now ZR and ZL) do not allow Mario to spray and run when you could on an original controller. It feels unnatural comparatively, but it isn't an end all. The other thing that's strange is the choice to have the power source come from 2 AA batteries instead of having an internal battery that can be recharged. I don't understand why having an internal, rechargable battery was scrapped in favor of using 2 AA batteries. It might not be a big deal to some people, but it will be for others. Other than that, the controller feels great in the hands, the controls work very well, and the classic sound when you spin the left joycon is nostalgic.

Pretty Solid smash controller

Easy to set up if you happen to play on slippi/dolphin. Would suggest!

It is almost exactly like the Gamecube Wavebird

This controller does not have rumble or any vibrations, or NFC scan for amiibo. With that being said, if you liked the original Gamecube Wavebird controller, this controller is probably for you. The original wavebird did not have vibration as well. I have not used it to play competitive smash or anything like that but I did use it for a couple other switch games. This controller is extremely light and comfortable, like the original Wavebird. You can play with this controller for hours and your hands will not hurt. I feel like the A button is very clicky, but it functions without a problem. This controller also has a nice d-pad on it, which works great. The controller does feel a bit plastic-y and cheaply made, so its probably not worth the original price, but if you can find it on sale I would recommend. Like the original Wavebird, this controller takes 2 AA batteries. They didn't print an estimated battery life on the box but I can say, expect battery life on par with.. the original wavebird! The original wavebird is known for extremely good battery life. I put EBL brand rechargable AA batteries in this controller and I have been playing with it for many, many hours and it shows no signs of dying yet. I would easily estimate 40-80 hours of battery life on a good set of AA batteries. This does not suck down batteries like other controllers.

9/10, would reccomend

The controller is amazing. the only downside it has is that in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it doesn't actually register as a GCB controller. but that's extremely easy to work around

Feels good, finally can use gamecube controller for pc games and switch

Feels comfortable in hands. Happy that it has the inputs of a modern controller. The only thing that took getting used to was the L and R are not analog and actually have quite a bit of travel before they click. Also they feel stiff so depending on the game you can be late on inputs and also tired.

Adequate, if you're okay with coughing up 2 AAs

**NOTE: This controller, in software, emulates a SWITCH PRO CONTROLLER, NOT a GameCube controller.** Keep that in mind if you'd like to swap between it and Joycons in Smash. They will share the same settings. (Note: I worked around this by using two different player profiles - named 'Joy' and 'GCube' respectively - in SSBU and swapping between them. I'm yet to test if this works for Online, however.) This also means that you these count towards the max of 4 standard Switch controllers you can have connected to the Switch at once. You can still connect the 4 additional GC controllers, if you so desire. I have never owned a GameCube, and haven't used the GC Controller or WaveBird enough to compare them beyond weight. Thus, I'm not able to directly compare how it "feels" to use. Look elsewhere if that matters to you. Although I haven't tested it, You should theoretically be able to use this with your PC to play games via Steam or emulators. Other things to note: ~ Controller uses 2 AA batteries, similar to a Wavebird. They last roughly 20-30 hours of use in practice. ~ Plastic isn't of the highest quality, but it's serviceable. ~ Controller is substantially lighter than a standard WaveBird or Gamecube controller, which I personally like, but could be seen as a con. I believe you could theoretically mod them to alter the weight. ~ I have not experienced any drift on either of my controllers. Overall, It's a good-enough controller for the price, and more portable than a standard controller + a GC-to-USB Switch dongle.

All around great

The triggers aren’t analog like the original so they don’t press in like they used to but everything else is just right. It even works on PC for gamecube emulation and the cable is long enough (too long sometimes but it is detachable!)
