At first, this tool was extremely effective, I’ll be it once I learned how to leverage it properly. We had some tougher weeds in our yard but I try to use these on and I guess overtime at weekend the wooden handle. Just the other day at snap completely on me.

This weed puller has over 16,500 4 1/2 star reviews. I was pumped that someone had finally figured out how to get weeds out of the ground efficiently and reliably. I have tried the hand weeder, the Fiskar claw weeder, Walensee Weed puller, etc. Unfortunately, Grandpa's Weeder is also going back like the others. They all failed to pull out the entire root or most of it. As we all know if you don't get the entire root then the weed will come back. The eternal cycle will then continue. In addition, the hole are pretty large no matter the size of the weed. The pros are that the weed puller is dead simple to use. Looks like it will last for many years and is ergonomic to use.

There are two reasons why this doesn't work: (1) It is very picky about the type of weeds it will work on. If you have one that is too large or the root is too weak, it won't pull it out. Instead, it just breaks it off. (2) It doesn't release the weed you pull up. You have to reach down and unwedge it with your hand. This means touching all these nasty weeds. It needs a quick release mechanism such as others do.

The tools works, as most other weed puller. It's sturdy and seems durable. However, every time you pull a weed, you need to stoop down to take it out of the clamps to make it ready to pull our your next weed. Whereas most other moden weed pullers have a plunger at the top which when pushed removes the plucked weed in a moment. Hence I gave it 2 star rating. Not that great ergonomically.

After reading the five star reviews, I had to try this one out. Unfortunately, it is not what I expected. The small prongs do not work well with pulling weeds such as crabgrass. It will break up the grass and you spend a great deal of time pulling small portions of the weed and cleaning the prongs. You will do much better using a weeding and digging knife.

Technically, I was (am) getting moderate success using this tool. However, it is tricky to get it so it pulls weed w roots… more often than not it tears in half and does not pull up with roots. Also it doesn’t really save bending over as you still have to release the weed from the tool For me- I get better results pulling by hand

Tried on different soils and weeds. Works best on soft ground with weeds that have shallow roots. Does not work on hard ground or gravel because thick tips cannot penetrate ground. Does not work on skinny weeds as they slip through jaws. It takes multiple tries to get deep rooted weeds out as you keep digging deeper in the same spot because the jaws are too shallow and can’t grip the skinny roots. Jaws clog up with soil after pulling a few weeds and need to be cleared with a stick. It leaves big holes in your lawn since it pulls out a square piece of grass in addition to the weed. Disappointing gift for grandpa!

The first time I used this, it was on crabgrass only. It pulls it out, root and all (and a whole bunch of dirt, which is difficult to remove from the tines). Pretty cool. Second time I tried to use it, it snapped :( Maybe I was trying to pull something too difficult for this tool, but it didn't really feel that way.

I wanted to dig out dandelions from the lawn. The tool had a nice thick handle and it should've worked okay, but our ground is hard and the prongs wouldn't go into the ground. They aren't sharp like the illustration. They're thick and blunt. I'm returning it.

There's a problem: the main stem of a big weed blocks the fork from coming down straight. As a result, I had to cut the weed's stem before using this to pull out the roots. It did that fine, but the extra work of cutting the weed does not make this tool efficient for big weeds. You still need to bend down and cut the weed first.
