Not practical

My yard consists of two types out areas that need frequent weeding, tilled garden beds and lawn. The dirt in the garden bed is too soft for the mechanism. Instead of closing up around the weed, it just digs into the dirt. It works better with the lawn, but leaves surpringly large divots.

Worked great, until it snapped

It’s amazing and works great at pulling weeds, but the handle snapped off the very first use. The ground was soft, the weed wasn’t huge and the darn thing just broke. I’m waiting for a replacement. Fingers crossed that it lasts longer than this one did!

This doesnt grip the root tight enough, so just slips on it when applying the pulling leverage.

I was very optimistic that this was going to be a good tool, but was surprised to find the steel spikes did not grip the root tight enough. My ground was damp so the roots just slipped out of its grasp and remained as is. I think this design just needs to have some scored lines cut into the tines, so it can have a better grasp on the root ball. It wouldnt pull out a single weed as is, so had to resort to using my cheapest stand up tool to do the job - more slowly. i had a better chance by spearing and then spinning the weedball so that it was wrapped around the tines before prying up. But thats not easy because the horizontal arm just gets in the way. I have to return this.

Not built for long roots

I have lots of broad leaf dock weeds which have extremely long roots. Thought this would pull them out with less effort than the usual dandelion weeder. It did not. Only worked with very young plants and slipped on the leaves of the larger plants. The teeth need to be much longer, stronger and there should be four of them to center over the roots.

Junk!!

Make it short and sweet, it doesn't work on most weeds...save your money!

The Goldilocks of garden tools

I really wanted to love this little tool, we’ve been out in the garden a few times now. So far I’m not impressed. It does work, I will say. However it requires several criteria to be able to help you out. 1. The ground has to be damp but not overly wet. (If it’s too wet the dirt just clumps up on the grabber and you have to constantly scrape it off every time you pull a weed. 2.Ground on the dry side? Weeds won’t come out and will break off leaving the roots to just grow new ones. 2. Weeds can be neither too small(won’t grab) or too large.(grabber can’t close around if it’s too big or multiple stalks.) 3. The surface of the grabber isn’t ideal for holding the weeds in its grasp as you try to use the lever to pop them loose. I feel like with a few small tweaks, this tool could be a lot more useful.

The handle is flimsy. Be prepared to replace it.

I used it for all of about two hours before the handle broke at the base. It's a wood handle and simply isn't made for the kind of stresses this tool will be put under. It's better served with a steel handle. There's a reason I generally don't buy tools with wooden handles and this is it. Thankfully, I already have a replacement handle. And no, it's not me. It's the tool.

Not effective

Forget the 45 inch handle length in the description as it's just 36 inches. The 4 prongs lack any teeth or serrations so many weeds just slip off. The spacing of the prongs are just half inch one way and barely an inch the other way. The foot lever which brings the weed up from the ground is 6 inches and you may have to bend way down to pull up long tap roots. If the handle was truly 45 inches, you probably would not have to. In all regards it is inferior to and much less effective than the fiskars unit which has serated prongs spaced twice as far apart enabling you to get a much better grip on weeds. And fiskars has weed removal slider. Sorry grandpa.

Good for certain weeds

This is an interesting and handy tool, but I would say does not work on all weeds. It works best for certain weeds (like dandelions) when you can insert the prongs straight down over the central root, then step on the lever to pinch and pull up the whole plant. However, for many weeds that are larger, have already spread with more than one tap root, this tool just does not grab it well. I still needed to dig out with a small pick ax or a larger root puller. So, not a bad tool to have around for some smaller weeds with a single, central root, but not the best for removal of bigger, more sprawling weeds with established underground root system.

Not precise

Loved the idea of this. But unfortunately I found it took big clumps of grass around the weed without actually getting the root out. I think maybe sharper forks with a more narrow area but much longer forks, might work better. But this got a 2x2 large clump, leaving a hole in the grass and the root of the weed still in there to regrow. It was very well made, sturdy, and tall enough to not bend down. I think if you were getting out huge weeds in a dirt area, it might do ok. But it was taking out too much healthy grass
