I am very disappointed in this tool. Did not work as I had hoped. I was using it on dandelions and button weeds. The ground was damp from a recent rain. The roots did not come out whole, if at all. The root grabbers do not have much space in between. Had a tough time fitting the in the middle of the small weeds. I wanted to give this a better review, but I cannot!

I thought this product would really help with my hurting back. I thought I would not have to bend over as much to pull weeds. I ended up having to bend over plus I used it after it rained thinking the weeds would come out easier, but the mud stuck in between the grabber and each time I had to clean it out. I would rather sit on my knees and use a screwdriver to pry them out.

With Grandpa's Weeder, I was not able to get out the entire root of each of the dandelion plants. With a dandelion plant, if you don't remove all of the long, single tap root, the dandelion will grow back. If you pull out the entire root, the dandelion plant will not grow back and is gone forever. So, I am very disappointed with this product. The videos I saw of this product being used led me to think that this device would pull out the entire root of every dandelion plant. But that just is not true, in my experience of using Grandpa's Weeder. I now think one of those weed diggers that you hold in one hand and use while kneeling or squatting down to the level of the plant and the ground might enable you to get out the entire root of each dandelion plant. After receiving my Grandpa's Weeder I used it to pull out about 40 dandelions, and of those only 1 time did I get the entire root pulled out. Now matter what I tried, I could not get it to have a higher success rate at pulling out the entire root of the dandelion plants. So, Grandpa's Weeder is really just a temporary solution--all or nearly all of the dandelions will grow back and will have to be attacked (one way or the other) again. Disappointing! I guess I should have known that Grandpa's Weeder is too good to be true. Surely the makers and sellers of Grandpa's Weeders have tried it on dandelions, right? And surely the makers and sellers of Grandpa's Weeders know that it is necessary to pull out the entire root of each dandelion plant, right? So, if there is a way to use Grandpa's Weeder to pull out the entire root of each dandelion plant, why doesn't the Grandpa's Weeder seller give its customers some instruction on exactly how to accomplish that? And if the seller of Grandpa's Weeder knows that there is no way to use Grandpa's Weeder to pull out the entire root of each dandelion, shouldn't they disclose that important fact to potential buyers of Grandpa's Weeders?

This design is not what I expected. You would think the foot petal is used to not only push down the weeks clamp into the ground but also close the weed clamp to trap the weed. Nope! It doesn’t! So you end of having to pull the foot clamp up towards you with your hand or try to get your foot under. Ridiculous. This could have been a great tool but it’s stupidly designed.

Tried this product on many different types/sizes of weeds and it only is able to pull out the easy, tiny guys. Grandpa’s Weeder shredded apart most of the other weeds and is incredibly hard to push into rocks. I missed the return window so I will be donating this tool with a tag reading “buyer beware: only works on whatever kind of weeds Grandpa has”. Overall, tool is built well, feels sturdy and would last a long time if it actually did what it is intended for.

My garden has clay soil. When I used this weeder, weeds frequently broke off, leaving the root in the soil. Sometimes it did pull the root out, but with a sizeable plug of soil. So I ended up with more work, refilling the holes. I ended up returning it. Under the right soil conditions, I can see how this might be a good weed puller -- but not for clay soil.

This is basically a shovel handle with a clipper at the end. It doesn't grip, it is like 2 inches deep, it is hard to use and it doesn't perform a "key goal" of a weed puller: IT DOESN'T PULL THE WEED ROOTS! It kinda tears the weed above ground and leaves the roots laughing at you and mocking you below the soil saying" "See you in two weeks!" Company refused to refund. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE

I was very disappointed and returned. Three Strikes and Grandpa's Weeder is OUT. Strike #1) They state an American Company, family owned in the Pacific Northwest and do NOT disclose their product is made in CHINA. Strike #2) They state the handle is 45" long when in reality it is only 37" long. Strike #3) They state it is made with steel when in reality it appears to be a cheap cast metal. Coming from China who knows what metals they used?

4/26/2022 - second update Received a reply today to my email from 2/19/2022 offering to replace my broken tool. I want nothing more to do with this company and declined their offer more than TWO MONTHS after I sent my email. And I had called them, and left messages, twice as well. Worst customer service I've ever encountered. And they can't blame C-19...my sister lives/works in Oregon in a public facing job. Just thought I'd knock down that excuse for anyone thinking they should be given the benefit of the doubt. 3/8/2022 - Updated review I was impressed. . . But no longer. Last year I used the weeder to pull maybe 20 weeds max. This year I had a lot more weeds. About 40-50 weeds in my handle broke. Tried finding another at a box store, but nothing was the same size. Emailed Grandpa's Weeder through their website with no reply after a week. Called and left them a message. Nothing. Emailed/called again to give them plenty of chances to respond. No response still. Even left a message say I just wanted to buy another handle. Wasn't even asking for a replacement under their supposed warranty. Just wanted to buy another handle! They don't support their products and have no honor. Sad....I really liked my weeder. Original Review in 2021: I am impressed enough that I took a photo of the tool, and the 7-8" tap root it pulled out cleanly, and sent the photo to my best friend! He wondered why I was sending him a photo of a tall weed. LOL Seriously, I'm in SoCal, we are in the middle of a horrible drought. The fact that this went into the hard packed soil, pulling out a huge tap root in one piece, is absolutely amazing. Grandpa's Weeder earned a place in my forever tool pile!

We thought we'd give this gadget a whirl, we think grandpa's and their ideas are great. Sadly, the teeth portion of the tool don't reach far enough into the dirt to really get a good grip on the weeds taproot. We tried rocking it back and forth, turning it in a circle, to no avail. Also, it takes so much soil out with the part of the weed it does grab, we have little holes all over. I guess that's okay, since we just pried the rest of the tap root out with a long screwdriver, but that defeats the purpose of the tool. Sending it back.
