Not for clay or rocky soils

First, let me say this weeder is of solid build quality and operates as intended under optimal conditions. Unlike other stand-up weeders, the weight being distributed at the base makes maneuverability and use easy. Now, what isn't explained is how much of a pain in the butt it is to clean out the forks when working with soil that is dense, primarily clay, and/or rocky. Although it works, the moist, dense soil will clog this thing after every use, causing the weed you just extracted to become stuck. Try as I might, I was unable to shake any of the weeds out that were removed from areas with these soil conditions. Unfortunately, I had to return my Grampa's Weeder for this reason, and this reason alone. It clearly would otherwise work well! If you have better soil, I highly recommend that you try it.

The handle is a piece of crap

The handle came in two pieces and did not fit secure. It was suppose to come with a screw to attach but it did not. The handle is very cheap and flimsy and the way they have you piece it together is a joke. No way it will hold up to do yard work. If you buy your own handle to put in it then it may be a pretty good tool but for the price it should come with a handle that will fit and can hold up to yard work. I was very disappointed.

Good concept, not practical for me.

The concept is great, but to use in a weedy garden takes all day .

Not for crab grass removal!

It doesn't work with deep rooted crab grass. I will return.

It broke on the first day

Usually these are really strong. I don't known if they've changed wood for cost efficiency, but this one was crap.

Great product but……

Great product but after two uses the claw portion doesn’t hold on. Screw gets loose and it has to be tighten. Now the screw doesn’t even catch anymore to the pole.

Doesn’t work on burdock

Tried to pull 10 medium size burdock weeds. About a foot tall. Ground had average moisture. At best got top of root. Missed 80% of the root.

Not My Dream Weeder: A Warren Hoe is Better

I had hoped for a tool that works better than a warren (pointy) hoe, but this isn't it. I have lots of beds that I needed to stem into as I tested this tool. I needed to push the tool down over the weed carefully, since the square formed by the four claws when opened is quite small, about 1 1/4" square. Sometimes this took a couple of tries. While tip-toeing among the pachysandras, I found this awkward and tedious. Then if the claws do grab the weed, I needed to pull it and a clump of dirt out of the claws with my free hand to toss the weed into a bin. As often as not, I ended up whacking the weed with the claw at the end of the lever to get it out, so I might as well use a hoe. Sometimes I just leaned on the handle for balance as I bent over to pull the weed by hand. I was hoping for a tool with a longer handle that would allow me to reach into a bed, grab a weed, and pull it up so I could then lift it towards me. Maybe for dandelions in a lawn this might be worth the effort, so I'll keep it for now.

Pulls up weeds but only a portion of it.

I liked that it was easy to use but it never pulled up the whole weed and left roots in the ground on most of them.
