I am grateful to have had this scanner on hand. My car was due for tag renewal and it kept failing emissions due to the "no communication" with the computer. I did this 3 times at different service stations. The emissions station uses OBD2 scanners to pass or fail cars. There has been no "check engine light" on in my car. Sure enough, when I hooked my car up to this personal scanner at home it created a "link error" message. This would discourage a lot of people and make them think it wasn't working properly. However, I knew it had nothing to do with the OBD2 scanner, and everything to do with my car since it wasn't able to communicate with the emissions OBD2 and this personal scanner. I was able to do some research online and tweak a few things at home until it was able to communicate with this personal scanner. It turned out to be as simple as changing out a fuse!! After it was able to communicate with my personal scanner I knew it was fixed and it passed emissions!! This scanner saved me hundreds of dollars from bringing into a shop to be fixed and repaired. I probably would have paid for unnecessary repairs in the process. Very grateful and happy to have this product!!

This little gadget more than paid for itself with one issue! My car had an intermittent electrical issue that caused the "check engine" light to come on. I am NOT "automotively gifted." This little scanner was simple to use and gave me clear codes to read and look up in the included book. I googled my code results to understand them further. When I took the car into the shop, I was able to clearly communicate all this information to the mechanic, which helped him to diagnose and fix the problem on the first shot (of course, he did further testing with the more advanced equipment in the shop). I felt so much more knowledgeable and in control of the whole situation than I ever have when bringing a car to the shop before. I am definitely a satisfied customer and would recommend this little gadget to anyone.

So this isn't the most advanced OBD reader, but for the price it's great. I bought it because I was going to look at some fixer upper cars I was thinking of buying, and it's great being able to check if the check engine light code is on for the reason the owner claims it is without going to a mechanic. Of course, I still recommend getting a mechanic to look at a car you're serious about buying, but this has helped me rule out several lemons without wasting more time. Also nice to be able to share with my friends when their check engine light come on-- So many check engine light codes can just be the seal of the gas cap failing or failure to tighten the gas cap enough-- why pay a mechanic $60+ to tell you you need to replace a $20 part or just be more careful when you can just have one of these on hand? Booklet contains the universal codes, if you get a manufacturer specific one, you'll need to look it up online, which is very easy with Google.

got a used car and couldn't pass inspection due to a bunch of monitors not activated after changing to a new battery... some stores were telling me to change the cat converter which would have cost me hundreds of dollars. i didn't believe them, bought this tool and did the whole driving profile thing for a few days while checking with the OBD tool. sure enough it showed me the car monitors were all finally activated. passed emissions test with no issue. it's a bit light and flimsy but it works.

Paid for itself in 3 months. First error code denoted a faulty gas tank cap. Easy enough for me to replace and was able to clear code right away and pass inspection. Second time was a misfiring within the first 2000rpm. Cleared code and it hasn't come back. Saved me two trips to mechanic :)

After my purchase I got nervous some reviews said the "Reset" function Failed. My "Reset" command also registered as a "Fail" however while the CEL was "on", this isn't the first time the computer didn't have any error codes logged. Check Engine light did reset even with the "Fail" message on my car. Additionally, most error can be reset by disconnecting your battery for a period of time, please note before you do so to confirm you have your car radio security code so you don't get locked out of it. Impressed by the build quality of this low cost device, and the results of my first use. I have a very intermittent issue that throws the CEL, so going to keep this in my car to try pulling the code the instant I see it.

This isn't a high-end OBD reader, so it doesn't have ALL of the features you can find on pricier models, but it sure does do what it's supposed to do. For the DIY guy, just needing an occasional read on a family or friend's car, this meets the need. I was pleasantly surprised that the user manual includes a list of codes & their meanings, so you don't have to look them up on the internet. Recommend.

Any body who is using this reader, the instuctions say plug in an wait for C.A.N.OBD2. You will be waiting forever. After you plug in the unit hit enter a your ready to go. Great intructions.

AWSOME!! Been trying to get my truck inspected for some time now but i had an engine check light error. Driving a 2000 S10 Chevy pickup, plugged this thing in found what was causing it.. easy fix and cleared the error with no issues what so ever. Would highly recommend this!

I got this to just troubleshoot and get some good prices before I pay way too much at dealership or a shop. It reads the codes great and just look them up on your phone. The internet has all the sources you need to troubleshoot your car with one of these.
