A Bit Disappointed.

Overall, I'm giving this a product 3 stars, but it should only get 2.5 stars. I have to admit, I was very impressed with it when it was new. I used it to shave my head every day with it, and it shaved clean and fast. After about 6 months, things started to change. It didn't cut well anymore. I would have to keep going over the same spots over and over again to get a clean shave. It would take a lot longer and a lot more work to achieve the same result as when it was new. I also had to keep it fully charged all the time just to get half-way decent results. Overall, I only got what I paid for 6 months. The Braun Model 60 does a better job and is a much better value.

Not what I was expecting.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this shaver free from Braun to test it out. I wasn't impressed with it. Out of the box it looks aggressive and ready to tackle any shave. Sadly, it seems to miss places here and there so you spend a lot of time on covering spots you've already done. It says it's supposed to be good for a 3 day beard but I find I could still get it done with an actual razor just as quick if not quicker. I have a cheap trimmer with an exchangeable head that does just as good. The flip up shaper/trimmer, in my opinion, is the best part of the shaver. It's very handy for trimming up your mustache. The grip on it is fantastic for wet or dry conditions so I feel like it's easy to hold on to. Overall, it's pretty good but for what you'll pay for this shaver it really should do a better job. Shavers are supposed to cut down on your grooming time, but with this one you spend a lot of time hunting down and reshaving spots that the Braun 3 3040 just seems to miss.I think... *

Braun close but not perfect

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So i recieved my braun series 3 shaver today thanks to braun and bzz agent as a promotional. Its a good shaver, for a quick shave or touch up. But it just dont get it all. I found that no matter how hard i tried there were certain spots that it just left hair behind. I much prefer my 5 blade razor. But will use this as a quick touch up.

Wet&Dry Shaver

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am Italian and I have some thick facial hair. I have to say that this is my first time using a shave like this and I am kind of impressed. Not to much tho. I had to go over my facial hair a few times before it removed anything. I still feel a bit of stubble where I shaved on my face. I did try it dry. But I am sure that its like when its wet. I have no issues with my 5 blade razor that I use. So yeah only three stars in my book.

Not bad at all.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product free from Braun to review. The Braun Series 3-3040 is a good shaver, for a quick shave or touch up. This did not harm my face at all; there were no reactions to this razor. I found that no matter how hard I tried there were certain spots that it just left hair behind. The shaver does not provide a close consistent shave. I guess it just isn't too good for thick hair. Charging it is easy because I just plug the charger to the bottom of the shaver and it's ready to use a little before an hour. And its water proof you can use it in the shower not plugged in of course. The razor is light and contoured; it’s a good complement for my morning shave routine.

First impressions... pretty underwhelmed

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This will be my initial reactions to the Braun series 3. I have not used it long term. Additionally there is a break in period for each person when it comes to an electric shaver, if one has been using a normal bladed razor. This is due to the change between wet shaving and dry shaving. Which, Dry shaving can be irritating to one's skin. Anyway, Onward! Design / Construction / Materials 4/5 It looks really nice. It fit really well in your hand. It feels very natural to use. Almost like a very large bladed razor. Handle is super bright blue, which is nice. High quality materials, overall, pretty nice. First shave 1/5 Note: This was a wet shave, with shaving cream, per the packaging, you can wet shave with this device. So I did. The photo on this review is from the initial wet shave, and I can tell you I did NOT like it at all. I started with about a week+ beard, which for me is like a 3 day beard. I used the clipper end to de-bulk, which worked pretty well. Then I applied the shave gel, and begun the 'normal' process of shaving. It was pretty bad. Hairs were pulled. Hairs were not cut. I went over areas several times without being able to remove the hair. It was very frustrating for a shaver of this quality/price. I expected a lot better. I ended up having to 'finish' the shave with a traditional bladed (disposable) razor. I am not sure how else to explain it. The shaver did not clean hair from my face as any razor/shaver should. Shave 2 3/5 This went a little better, I dry shaved for this one after about a day. I had barely stubble, which the shaver seemed to do fine with. Marked as 3/5 due to the irritation the blades cause, which truly is 'normal-ish' but when you have an option to wet shave, and you cannot due to the shaver not handling it well, you dock stars off. pretty basic normal shave. Apply lotion afterwards to ease irritation. W00t Shave 3 1/5 The Grandpa shave My father in law who was visiting (and conveniently forgot his shaver) needed to shave his starting Santa beard (he grows face-hair much faster). He hated it. It definitely could not debulk his hair with the clipper ends. He tried to clean shave after using my beard trimmers to debulk, and again, same complaint. Hair gets pulled, pinched, and irritated. The shaver does not handle the thicker hair. Another complain my father-in-law mentioned, was that with his shaver, the pucks collect most of the hair for him, where the Braun did not. He ended up having a ton of hair on him, after shaving. Short story, he did not like it at all. Cleaning and maintenance 4/5 This is actually not too bad. Device holds a pretty decent charge. It feels really durable. It is super easy to clean. Does not have the crevasses to collect hair and filth like other shavers. Overall I would say this aspect is pretty good. Final thoughts. I am pretty mixed on this. I feel like I need another couple of days/shaves before I make my final decisions. The shaver does work with minor stubble, and as with any dry shaver, one does need to give some time, for ones skin to get used to it. I will likely update this review with my final thoughts, after I give it a bit more time.

A neat little electric razor

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have fairly low amounts of facial hair, which I would normally shave off every three days or so with a cartridge razor. This is also the first electric razor I have used. The Braun requires no shaving cream or after shave for use, and is a fairly sleek looking instrument that does not feel cheap or breakable. The battery charges rapidly. I would say that this electric shaver takes slightly longer for me to shave than with a normal razor and shaving cream, as even if I pull my skin tight (as per the instructions) and make a pass or two over my skin, hair follicles remain. I have to make multiple passes over my face to achieve similar results to the razor, and sometimes a rogue, long hair will remain. However, my skin normally can dry out using a normal razor in the winter, and the Braun does seem to be less irritating to my skin, which is certainly a plus. It is also less messy without the need for shaving cream. However, it seems to be only partially effective in removing all of the hair from my neck and face, regardless if I am going with or against the grain. I will probably use the Braun mainly for travel shaving, as it is compact and easy to clean up after. If I were a consumer and wanted to know everything about this purchase, I would want to know that the efficiency that this razor cuts facial hair is a little bit lower than I expected. It is not a bad product, but it just doesn't grab hair like I would expect it to, and misses some hairs occasionally. However, the convenience of not having to use shaving cream and do a lot of cleanup makes this a decent product when compared to a cartridge razor. Thanks BzzAgent and thanks Braun for this Sample opportunity.

good in a pinch

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I think this product works well. I don't get the close shave that I would like. However I was on a campout and took it. It works well when you don't have the chance to use a regular razor. I have tried both the wet and dry mode and I thing the wet works better. The long hair clipper was good for trimming my mustache.

Solid razor

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Overall its a great razor for both using it in the shower and while having a wet and dry face. However the one thing I wasn't impressed with was the fact that it took several times to remove hairs from certain areas. I will however continue to use it frequently as I prefer this over a non electric razor. I was in fact looking for an electric one soon. Even though I had to go over certain areas several times there was no razor burn like with some other shavers I'd want to know how other people faired with this same razor such as how it worked and reviews of the product itself.

Ok, but not great on dry stubble

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Braun® Series 3-3040 is the second foil shaver I've used, temporarily replacing the Philips Norelco 3000 series shaver and disposable razor I normally use in my shaving routine. I use my Norelco when I'm in a rush and the disposable razor when I want a closer, cleaner wet shave using shaving gel. Most of my shaving needs target short chin stubble, since the longest I will go without shaving is two days. I decided to follow the recommended manufacturing instructions and (1) use sideways movement, (2) shave BEFORE taking a shower, and (3) shave against the direction of beard growth. (I typically do the opposite of the first two aforementioned items in my shaving routine.)To test out the base capabilities of this device, I opted for a dry shave without any shaving creams or gels. My first few experiences caught most of the longer hairs, but missed many of the shorter hairs on my upper lip and neck. I had to go over my upper lip three times to get all the hairs and ended up with some ingrown hairs and minor razor burn as a result. I've had similar experiences dry shaving, so I'm not surprised this time but also a bit disappointed. I rarely shave BEFORE a shower, since I find that a warm shower makes for a smoother shaving experience by first softening the hairs, opening the pores, and making delicate facial skin more supple and receptive. The three "independently floating cutting elements" don't really offer much advantage over rotary shaving, since three mobile foils are not nearly enough to hit all the weird angles around the chin and neck. The shaver head is easy to remove and rinse clean, and the long hair trimmer works like any other long hair trimmer. I've been able to get at least five shaves on a single battery charge (so far), so no complaints there. The Braun® Series 3-3040 is incredibly loud, so if you're shaving at the crack of dawn while your loved ones are sleeping be sure to extend them the courtesy of closing the bathroom door. In conclusion, I'm not really impressed with this model since it takes twice as much time and discomfort to shave my chin stubble as a disposable razor would. My verdict is that while this model may be good for longer facial hair growth, its performance on shorter stubble is middling at best.
