Umbrella looks to be well built, and pretty easy to position/fold/unfold. The material for the canopy could be a bit thicker but seems to be durable enough. I was hoping for more of a canvas type material at this price point but it's not that thick. A big plus on this umbrella is that its structure is primarily made from aluminum which precludes rusting. However, some brackets and small parts are steel and will rust over time. The base requires concrete weights to hold the umbrella in place. Weights are not included with this umbrella, but it doesn't look like they are included with any other umbrella either. One issue I had out of the box was missing cranks that control the rotation and unfolding of the umbrella. Purple leaf support (via email) was quick to send out the missing cranks which was appreciated.

Purchased this 9 ft umbrella a few months ago. I mainly use it in the most vertical position to shade my hot tub from the sun. It’s basically a great umbrella with few faults. Mine is exposed to AZ sun and it’s fading after a few months. The base that comes with it is a joke. I did purchase the 34” optional base that you fill with water or sand. If you purchase the 10 or 11ft umbrella I would purchase the larger base. My setup does ok in 10–12 mph winds but a 20mph gust of wind blew it over. I should add that once you fill the base there is no moving it. When it arrives it’s easy to set up . It’s also easy to operate.

The Purple Leaf 10ft Umbrella is an awesome. It opens easily and swivels to where you want it with no problem. The umbrella is very attractive. The umbrella is stable in semi windy conditions. If the wind gets too strong you will want to put it away. It could become 100 sqft kite. The reason I am giving the product 4 stars instead of 5 is that you have to have a mounting base. That should be included with umbrella. Lots of umbrellas sell separate weights. This umbrella had no base at all so you have to order one separately. Fortunately for me my old umbrella base had additional holes to accommodate the Purple Leaf umbrella. The assembly instructions are a bit lacking. You do have to remove packing material from inside the umbrella before using it. That is a bit tricky to do and should have been better defined in the instructions. Once its up great umbrella. Getting it there takes a base and some unpacking of packaging in some tough to reach spots.

After reading the many reviews, I bought the umbrella, the plastic water filled base AND the sand bags just to make sure the umbrella stays upright. On the first day of use, there was a moderate breeze and the base did not falter. About an hour later, a gust of about 10 mph knocked it over breaking my deck rail but not doing any damage to the umbrella. The next day, I fabricated brackets to fit over the large base and attached them with sleeve anchors in my concrete patio. I have since deliberately raised it in a moderate wind and it is fine now. Being able to rotate the umbrella is what makes it so usable since moving it requires some labor on my part. So make sure you have the correct location for the base before adding all that weight...even with wheels it's not so easy to move. For the money, I am satisfied...it looks classy too!

I bought this 9' square offset umbrella in turquoise blue PLUS the base. I ALSO bought the 10' round offset umbrella in turquoise blue PLUS the base. ALL from Purple Leaf. Yes- well made looking and very attractive. I spent a lot of money buying all these things. The square umbrella was placed onto my patio and the round umbrella onto my deck. I was hoping to have both umbrellas match in color but they did not. One was very much light in color than the other. Nice turquoise blue colors otherwise so I kept both. The bases, by the way, were very solid and nice looking. I have a lot of sun in the back so these will come in very handy. I already knew how to put these units together as I was replacing an old offset umbrella but I felt the instructions given could have been a little more explanatory. Also in the instructions, it mentions there being a foot pedal to hold the umbrella in place once you rotate it to a desired location. There is no foot pedal. Old instructions. As for the bases, I took my time and filled them with sand. There's 2 holes in the top of the bases to do this. Holes are not centered however so I used a blower in the holes to try and move the sand to all spots. It would have been better if a total of 4 holes were provided at the top for doing this chore to evenly spread the sand into it. So getting the sand to all parts was very hard. Besides, I plan on leaving these in the same location through out the winter. Just cover them up. One thing I did not like was that when I ordered these 2 umbrellas and the 2 bases, it would have been nice if an option was offered to buyers like me: In the umbrella boxes it also contains a set of metal base bars (for people who do not purchase the bases). These base bars are used to bolt the unit down to a deck, for example. It's useless for me, however, because I purchased the bases. I'm stuck with these base bars and yet, had to purchase them with the umbrellas. Purple Leaf should have offered the option of removing these and reducing the price if a person purchases the separate bases at the time of sale. The bases that I purchased, by the way, have the built in bars already installed, so ... but I think these umbrellas are all packed and boxed the same in the factory. But again, if you're purchasing the separate bases, then these other base bars contained in the box are useless. Waste of money. Umbrellas also come with a cover. It looks pretty nice. There are wheels under the base by the way-just on one side. Impossible to move unit once it's filled. Also- before trying to open the umbrella up, you have to look inside it as they used Styrofoam and tape to pack the prongs up. The instructions don't tell you to remove them before hand and you're trying to open the umbrella only to discover they're inside the umbrella so you have to try and reach in and up to cut them out. But nice umbrellas. NOT waterproof. The first thing written in the instructions tells you this. For the money I spent, I think it should have been waterproofed.

Aside from virtually no instructions, this is a very nice umbrella, once I figured out how to take the packing out from the inside and manipulate the crank. The color seems more of a tan to me that it looks in the photos but I can work with it. As others have suggested, make sure you buy the matching water-filled base (even though the base expensive!). The umbrella is very large and unwieldy and came close to tipping over when I tried out the setup inside. I am sure that you would have difficulty with it tipping over in any kind of outside breeze without the accompanying base. With the base it seems very sturdy.

I bought this umbrella for my deck sitting area. I have a deck area that is approx. 12’ x 20’ in area that gets direct sun from about 9:00 AM to about 3 PM and an awning just wasn’t a good solution as the only application was on the narrow end of the deck. The Purple Leaf 10’ square umbrella was a good solution for how to get some needed shade cover. It easily provides shade for at least 4 people to sit comfortably in shade as the sun passes thru this deck area during the heat of the day. The construction of the umbrella is top notch. Well engineered, easy to assemble, easy to open and adjust position. I also purchased the Purple Leaf base which is well suited for supporting the umbrella in wind. I feel confident it will not permit the umbrella from tip over, but I would not recommend you leave the unit opened unless you are there using it. It is quite large and has a large surface area to be hit by wind. It it were to be tipped over I do not think it would fare well for the framework and think damage would likely result. I do have a couple of criticisms about the product. Because of its size, the fabric needs to be lightweight in order to easily lift and open the unit. As a result, and due to the fact that it is shipped in one piece with the exception of the base close brace system, even though the box advises the carrier to have two people lift and move the shipment, clearly that almost never is the case. As a result it is often difficult to not experience some packaging damage. Although the box was not punctured, shifting must have occurred and the fabric at one of the corners of the umbrella has a small abrasion tear about 3/8” in length. A disappointing find but with a little matching thread I stitched up the tear and hope this will last. It’s not worth the hassle of trying to present a claim for this issue and I certainly don’t want to face the hassle of shipping the product back, it’s a huge box. Lastly, the other item that in my view needs a bit more thought is the two crank handles. They work fine, but neither one attaches securely. They use a snap ball like a ratchet socket and there is not enough snap to hold them secure. For the minor tear and the crank handle design I would rate the product with 4 not 5 stars.
