I've owned the desk cycle for over a week now and have had put in many hours of use into it at my work place. However, It's important to clarify what this device is good at and what it is not necessarily the best fit for. The purpose that I bought it for was to provide more non-direct exercise activity to my day since I'm sitting at desk and don't get much time to move about, which has many consequences to the human body as we do require at least some level of walking, lifting, etc. For this purpose, I've found the device to be of great help after set up. However, as an alternative to moderate / intense cardio such as running or biking, this little guy can do the job on a high setting with some additional set up, but you will get better results using an aerodyne or a real treadmill.Using a chair with casters that don't lock and a swivel that doesn't lock, the highest setting I've managed to get it working with is 2. Any higher will cause the chair to start moving unless you brace it with something, and that can make getting up for breaks difficult since you often throw off the position you set yourself up in. This may differ depending on the kind of floor and how good the casters are. On a final note, I'm not sure how anyone can manage using anything with a height of 15 inches off the floor, given that this deskcycle at 10 inches for the pedal mechanism barely fits under the desk as is. Make sure you get a good tape measure and do some math before grabbing one of these guys.---------------------------------------------- Update (12/22/2017) ( A few years ownership and a couple of bikes later...)-----------------------------------------Okay, so I've discovered some things about the bike that people may want to consider when buying for heavy use (using at your work desk every day for 200+ minutes a day for Low Intensity). Position and strap tightness are paramount to the health of the device as well as at least some conscious effort early on with pedaling when using an office chair. Additionally, keep in mind the kind of floor the device is being set upon. The main problems this device suffers is that the user has complete and independent control of their position and angle relative to the mechanisms applying force to the magnetic wheel. Early on the device is very forgiving and wont make noise if someone positions themselves properly, but improper position and tightness on the pedals can lead to the click noise described on the websites help page. I've found the best way to deal with this is to get rubber casters on the wheel section to prevent the chair from sliding around as the strap only stops the chair from rolling away. The other change I did was consciously teach myself how to pedal on the device in a way that doesn't harm the mechanism. This means keeping the straps tight so the feet don't rest too far at the edge of the pedals. Also, if you are on a floor with a lot of cushioning, make sure it isn't rocking when you pedal. You might have to set the resistance lower to prevent rocking the unit. All of this was learned through buying two units and unintentionally damaging a few, which the company graciously replaced via warranty. You can definitely feel good about buying from 3D Innovations because I haven't had such good customer service in ages.Update: April 3, 2019I've now owned the last two desk cycles for well over a year and have had no problems with them. To keep the Desk Cycle working without having it wear down, the key is to put down some equipment matting under the cycle to cushion it just like a real cycle, and to adjust the angle being peddled so that it properly aligns. I clock around 1500 minutes during the work week and about 575 miles, while doing around 360 minutes during the weekend. These can take a hammering if one takes proper care of them, just be mindful to take the right precautions.

My wife loves this thing ! I put it together in like 5 min . She uses it everyday and it conveniently fits under her desk at home . I’ve even used it on the higher settings it will give your legs quite the workout . Highly recommended.

This is the second type of desk bike I've used and by far the best. I am 5'5" and the bike fits under my desk and I can pedal all day long without interrupting my work. Since getting the bike I've gone from sitting still all day to biking close to 300 miles a week. Without changing my diet, I am steadily slowly losing weight (2+ pounds a week so far - just starting week 4 today). My legs are getting stronger too and after two weeks on the bike I was actually able to go for an hour jog without stopping! I haven't gone jogging in almost two years. The bike is quiet and sturdy and I do need to use the safety strap or my chair will roll back away from the pedals. I find my posture is actually better with the bike - that it actually forces me to sit more upright in my chair, which is an added plus. After seeing my cycle and trying it out, several people in my department at work have purchased these. And it is being proposed to the company that I work for to add the DeskCycle to their list of optional "healthy" desk accessories (such as the standing desk) based on the health benefits from moving throughout the day versus sitting still.I 100% recommend this cycle to anyone bound to their desk and looking to find ways to keep moving throughout the day. I don't use a keyboard tray, but one of my co-workers does and even with a drop down keyboard tray, if you follow their instructions on suggested ways to pedal and position the bike, she is able to bike easily all day as well.Pros: The bike is extremely quiet. It has good resistance. It pedals smoothly and is very stable - doesn't move on me at all. It is easy to put together. Fits well under my desk.Cons: It is heavy (but that's also likely why its stable and doesn't move when I use it). Minor con: The display timer only runs up to 100 mins. I bike 5-6 hours a day so have to check my pace on the online calculator to make sure its logical when I calculate calories. If you have a low desk and/or your desk isn't very wide you may need to adjust your working location a bit (sit in the corner) to still be ergonomically correct. Some of the paralegals here at work who have gotten this bike have run into this issue. I'll keep you posted on potential fixes that they have found worked. Also if you have a drop down keyboard tray keep in mind this lowers your "desk height" for pedaling purposes.Happy pedaling!!!****** Update April 2016 ****So after one month of use, my left pedal kept coming loose. Now after three months of use, the left side is completely stripped and I can no longer use the bike (the pedal no longer stays on at all). I have emailed the company and called the warranty number twice leaving messages and have not received a response yet. Its only been a week since my first contact with them about my now non-functional bike. I will keep you posted on how their Customer Service works for me. I've read good things about them fixing problems and I hope that to be the case. And I hope this gets resolved soon! I miss biking throughout the day!Since January my legs are more toned. I bike on average 200 miles a week and am down 12 pounds and 2 sizes. I still love the bike and hope my pedal issue is just a fluke and that this can be resolved so I can get back to biking.******* Customer Service was great! I was sent a whole new bike and am happily pedaling away again! Since starting this process I am now down 20+ pounds. I'm more awake in the afternoons, no 3PM slump at all - and more energized and focused throughout the day. Highly recommend this bike!

I will be using this machine for rehab. after knee surgery. I have been using it to gain some strength and like it very much

So far I love this. It is sturdy and well made. It is extremely quiet and easy to assemble and use. I have a pinched nerve in my back and walking at the moment is impossible. With this I can exercise my legs with ease and hopefully gain in strength.

It's not bad, but the batteries (green ones) came smashed like a sad jolly rancher. Thankfully I have spare AAs to test it out. One thing I forgot to mention about both the DeskCycle 2 and the Ellipse is the option to use the Display stand for your desk. Do it! It works great and serves as a reminder on your desk to keep motivated.I guess, if the Ellipse is way out of your budget and you can settle for a lesser model, get the DeskCycle 2. Just know that you'll have to strap your feet every time you want to go.---I left a review for both on the Ellipse model too, here's what I said:You know the saying, "quality over quantity?" It really shows with this Ellipse model. Please, don't wait any longer and get this one! Why? Oh, still not convinced? You want me to explain further? Ok then, no problem, read up! :)Look, I tried the original DeskCycle in 2018 and it...was okay but I returned it after a day.I purchased the DeskCycle 2 and the Ellipse at the same time and from ease of assembly, and trash/recyclables from packaging, Ellipse is the way to go.The Ellipse requires you to fit the foot board on one side, flip it over, screw, flip back, then do the same to the other foot board. Done. The DeskCycle 2 requires you to assemble both the front and back leg stands as well as the foot pedals onto the machine. You could probably assemble 10 DeskCycle Ellipse models in the time you finish 1 DeskCycle 2. So, yeah, it's easy to assemble.Yeah but it's pricy right? Sure, but remember "QUALITY over quantity?" This is a very smart piece of engineering, thoughtfully planned out without the potential IKEA assembly stress. For quality control, the machine is set to 8, the highest resistance, so be sure to read the instructions thoroughly and crank it down to 1 before trying. Both machines worked great for my chair with wheels, but I'm also not on carpet so maybe it's a different story for that. There's zero noise level from both models. Seriously. You could hypothetically take it to a public library and it wouldn't disturb others - you still might get looks. Again, hypothetical.I have returned the DeskCycle 2 and purchased another Ellipse for myself as the first Ellipse was a gift. If it helps, the person typically favored the recumbent bike at the gym when we used to go, while I preferred the elliptical. We both 100% enjoy the Ellipse more the the DeskCycle 2.You don't have to strap in everytime, as you do with DeskCycle 2. With Ellipse, you just go, and you can adjust your foot placement for motion type!Oh, one more thing, the pedals can be secured if you want to lug it around or use it as a free weight hahaha. This is probably my favorite Amazon purchase of the year.

I'm 56 and going through menopause, and struggling to stay fit. I used to park far from work and walked 20 blocks a day, plus at lunch. Then Covid happened and I had to work from home, my exercise plummeted, I gained 12 pounds, and I started feeling SO BUMMED. I bought this on a whim, and was expecting to be disappointed as I have vivid memories of my Mom's exercise bike being used as a clothes rack for most of my childhood. But instead, this actually changed my life. I keep it on a low resistance setting (2) because my knees hurt with arthritis, and I just cycle and cycle while I work for several hours a day. I completely forget I'm doing it, and after less than 2 weeks, I already feel stronger both physically and mentally. My husband says my eyes look brighter, and I can tell that I just feel more energetic and peaceful. I've also lost about 3 or 4 pounds. Also, I go to the DeskCycle website and use the calories calculator every day and send it to my FitBit, so I get credit for it, which is encouraging. And, it's very quiet, although my boss said she can just hear it a little during Teams meetings. That actually surprised me.The only drawback is that I did have to reconfigure my desk so my knees wouldn't hit. I'm good with figuring spacial things out though, so it was no biggie. I stopped using my slideout keyboard tray, put a board on top of my desk (slid it under my monitor to hold it in place) and it extends about 8 inches out from the front of my desk to hold my keyboard so my knees clear my desk. I am on carpet so my chair does not slide backward, but I got one for my husband and his chair does slide backward which was a problem. I put silicone-bottomed casters under 2 of his chair wheels so they wouldn't move and that seems to be working. The DeskCycle comes with a velcro strap for this purpose, but I found it awkward. We also had to do the board thing for his desk to raise his keyboard and extend it out from the front of his desk. I think probably everyone will have to.Lastly, the DeskCycle is REALLY well made! It surprised me because so many products are made so poorly these days. But, this is really heavy metal, and built to last. I hope I don't sound like a commercial because I am just a happy customer and want to help others in my situation. This is a wonderful product once you get your desk configured to accommodate it and figure out how to hold your chair in place. And I really feel it has turned around my depression and given me more a sense of control over my weight : ) Cheers!

This is the first under-desk cycle I've used so I don't have any basis for comparison, but this thing is sleek, slim, quiet, and effective. It may take a while to find the right placement for comfortable leg movement and adjust the resistance and speed, but once I got it right I found that I could get "in the zone" and work without even noticing the exercise. I been smashing my daily calorie and activity goals, getting hours of exercise every day without sacrificing any time, and feeling great for it.Some constructive feedback: I would prefer finer control of the resistance. I hope to improve, but for now my ideal resistance is right between levels 3 and 4; 3 is too easy and 4 is too hard.Update 1: Note that the distance and calorie counts given by the display are basically worthless. The resistance level does not affect them; the distance is calculated as 22 feet per revolution, regardless. So higher resistances are equivalent to a steeper slope, not a higher gear, and there's no way to establish an equivalent when changing settings. And an accurate calorie count would depend on your age, weight, etc., anyway. It turns out that you can adjust the resistance between the detents with some care, so it can be set to 3 1/2, which is just about perfect for me. But if you bump it wrong it will snap back to 3 or 4.Update 2: After a few thousand miles, my DeskCycle was making noticeably more noise than when I first started using it. Opening up the pedals, I found that the bearings are un-sealed and not captive. Used in an environment with prevalent dust or pet hair the grease on these bearings will tend to attract debris.Because they are not captive, I don't recommend loosening the bolts within the pedals, as you may find yourself chasing ball bearings and faced with difficult re-assembly. Nevertheless, I was able to clean out and re-pack the bearings with grease, and then enclose the bearing races with tape in an attempt to shield them from further debris. This was not difficult, but should not be necessary. Consider simply purchasing different bike pedals. In addition, something within the unit had begun to produce a squeaking/rasping noise. It's fairly simple to remove the clear plastic shield and blow out any dust that may have accumulated. I also carefully applied a belt dressing to the internal belts, and the noise has abated. Finally, while I had it open, I was able to calibrate the resistance dial by adjusting the two nuts on the magnet bracket assembly, very similar to the way bicycle brakes, etc., are adjusted. With a little trial and error, I was able to shift the resistance down slightly so that level 4 is exactly where I'm comfortable.Overall I'm still very happy with this product but, if you're not at all handy, don't have basic tools, or aren't comfortable potentially needing to do some basic maintenance, proceed with caution, and make sure the unit and surroundings remain very clean.

I have already put 75 miles on the replacement making a total of 900 miles and lost 20 pounds in 2 months. My heart doctor said it was so good in showing heart results after a heart procedure that she ordered one!
