Lost the fight with an onion

I bought this for my fiance for father's day, he's been wanting one for so long. He was excited to use it & the first time he did, he sliced an onion. This thing fell apart! The black handle came off of one side so the entire side of it fell off. Tomorrow I'm going to exchange it for the same model and hope it was my fiance, not the mandolin.

Too many parts, not sturdy. Not safe.

I didn't like it. Its too dangerous, with all the blades its too many parts to put together & its not safe to handle. The blades snap on & off, the grip for the food comes apart; it is just not solid. Too many parts to change, assemble per project. I will be returning mine.

Frustrated

I took the time to try and learn. I just don't get what's for what. Too many parts and I don't have the patience. Maybe it is better for other people. But I just want my knife back.

Damaged right out the box

Was a little annoyed that I purchased this item just in time to come home and use it. When I opened it up the knob was already broken. I haven't had time to return it due to working a lot but I will be returning this weekend.

Not worth it!

I've been searching the internet, watching reviews, checking websites for top mandolines and asking friends. Everything on the market has a flaw to it, unless you go with the professional models (over $120). I finally decided to give this Oxo a try. I just bought it this afternoon... well, into the box & back to the store it goes. I took the time to watch videos of how to use it, read the manual and familiarized myself with how to change blades and the function of each blade/setting. I used the wedged blade for potato cuts. It worked great. Then attempted to make waffle cuts... well, it was ok... It does not produce consistent waffle cuts. One side of the cut would look great while the other just looks wedged, as if they were not evenly cut. I tried different thicknesses. Wedged cuts can be made thick or thin while waffle cuts have to be at the lowest two settings or would not work. Straight slices were good with all veggies I've tried. However, the biggest issue was when i tried to julienne a cucumber & carrot. Should be easy and straight forward. WRONG! The cut was not all the way through. The strands were stuck to each other and you'd have to separate by a knife. I tried different thicknesses just to make sure that was not the issue. I even tried to use different pressures and go for longer cuts vs shorter cuts (the way you'd place the vegetable in the holder) but that did not make a difference. I tried making french fries cuts on the largest thickness. First, the cuts were not large enough for french fries, too thin. Second, it seems that you have to have an evenly cut potato for this to work which is not practical at all. Halfway through the slicing, the cuts were not separated all the way through, I had to separate by hand. That was enough for me to stop and decide that was not the mandoline i was looking for. Videos demonstrate how easy it is to use, per a professional. Well, if an ordinary person cannot produce the claimed cuts out of this mandoline, then it's not designed for the everyday customer. Oxo has dropped the ball on this one, sadly! I love their products and i really wanted this mandoline to be the one. But the search continues!

So poorly designed.

Lots of little sharp, dangerous pieces, that are hard to clean or store. Floppy hinged frame with crevices. It doesn't balance over a bowl, but there is barely room for a plate under it. And even then the slices push forward off the plate. I returned it once it cut my finger while I was trying to be very careful washing it.

Too much going on.

It was so difficult to figure out. The instructions are dismal. I watched a few YouTube videos with little success. I prefer a straightforward mandolins
