Noisy lil fella

Very effective with a few cons: Quite noisy so if you’re a sensitive sleeper, this isn’t for you. I use it for a home gym so it doesn’t bother me I find I have to crank the AC up to the lowest temp to get it to cool the surrounding area. May be the outlet tubing is not effective/insulated enough to carry away the warm air. I think some heat escapes the tubing which counteracts the cooling of the room.

Good but very loud

Good unit but very loud. It’s sounds like your on a jet plane. I don’t recommend putting this in your bedroom. Cools well though. Besides the noise, I’m happy with it.

Very powerful portable AC, but packing material needs work.

Item arrived with minor dents in the side plating. This damage does not have any apparent effect on the function of the AC and it's powerful enough that it keeps the room it's in at least 15C colder than any room far away from it. Would have given 5 stars if not for the shipping damage.

Loud, flimsy assembly kit but cools well enough

It’s not an easy install for me since I have a narrow window and has to use a stainless steel steak knife & a large sturdy stainless steel scissors to slowly cut away unwanted lengths of the window kit. Also the assembly kit provided feels flimsy, that I have to use tape to make e.g. the pipe to stay firmly attached to the window kit, and the pipe seems thin and fragile, so is the window kit. I use tape when needed. It is also a lot louder than expected, but it cools well (I set the temp to 68F) from the other side of my 350sq. feet dorm room in conjunction with a window AC unit on my side. (This unit alone won’t be cooling that well if it’s alone. But I have to set it on the other side of the room to offset the loudness, even if I have a noise-cancelling ear phone. At night, the noise level is bearable for me (the sleep mode is not much of a difference from normal noise level) because I like my room very cold in summer).

Adequate but noisy

Im going to agree with many of the other reviews is that even in low mode, it is not as quiet as claimed, it is still very noisy. Best to move it to another room and aim it at the bedroom so you can sleep with the noise once you get used to it. Also on several other reviews, it mentions flimsy attachment. I also was scratching my head reading the instructions to attach the hose ring to the hose. The instructions are NOT clear on this, so I figured it out myself. It does NOT screw on to the hose, it is deceiving because it has ridges that make you think so. Finally decided that I would PUSH the top of the hose through on one end, and it did have a good grip on one side, but you have to kind of push the hose (light gentle force please or else your screwed!) and after some gentle prodding, maneuvering and extremely gentle forcing did it grab onto the other side, hapazardly and crooked, but it held with some tugging to see if it would fall apart again. After that, I gently secured it to the back of the unit. So that did the trick. As for the window attachment part, that was very easy. My windows were taller than the window piece, so I had to shove some cardboard in the empty space and use a little tape to hold that in place. As for the unit function itself, I am pleased at the performance, it does cool well. Another helpful hint is that it kept colder on the low setting than on high. Overall pleased with the unit, but the attatchments as stated in many other reviews are flimsy. They could do better and make it a few mils thicker and made to attach better!

Just OK for me.

The 8,000 btu is a nice, slim model. It was easy to handle and maneuvers well on wheels. I have it in my 11x14 bedroom ( only 154 sq. ft. ) and in cool mode - I find it falls a bit short. On an 88 degree night, I set the temperature down as low as it could go, I think 64, had it on all night on high - over 9 hours, shades pulled, door closed and the room only got down to 72 by morning. It wasn't very cool but perfectly comfortable because the air was dry and no humidity. I felt it should have performed better in such a small area going 9 hours on high in cool mode. I also would rather the fins on top to blow air higher since cold air falls. I really can't feel it because the air doesn't get up over the bed and the fins don't adjust straight up. I have an older Sylvania in the living room which is 12,000 btu and it is definitely much better. I would suggest nothing less than 12,000 btu for any room in a house. Overall, it's a nice, decent working, fairly quiet model. If you find your model rattles a bit or gets loud alot of times, it's the casing. I folded up a little piece of a thin noodle box maybe 2 folds and stuck it in the seam on one side of my Sylvania and it absorbed the rattle noise completely. I think insulating the seams with a rubber gasket would have been a good idea on these portables.

Perfect small size, cools fast, poor quality attachments

So for $300 this is a pretty good deal. I’d been looking for a smaller size portable AC in hopes that it would fit on my makeshift pandemic desk in my makeshift pandemic office. It turns out I just can’t focus when it’s like 90 degrees in my (tiny) (pretend) office. This cools down my space (85 sq ft) in about 5 minutes. It’s going to take some real Girl Scout ingenuity to get the window hose attachments to be secure (they are loose and very poorly made) but I think some duct tape, a saw, and some weather stripping will do the trick. If you too are dying in your (new reality) home office this is a good buy.

Perfect for surviving night shift in the summer

My husband and I moved to night shift last autumn, and even during the winter noticed that our room gets quite warm during the day when we were asleep, so we needed an AC unit. Our building prohibits in-window machines, so I grabbed one that would cool down the room without getting us in trouble. Installation and set-up was very easy, except for the part that fits into the window. We don't exactly have small windows, but the piece that slots in was about four inches too long and needed to be cut short. Other reviews suggested I may have to do this, so I was prepared for this eventuality. After cutting the piece to size, it slotted nicely into the window. Setup and installation went very smoothly aside from needing to cut a piece off. Everything fits together snugly and doesn't feel loose or cheap during assembly. The hose could be a little more flexible, but most people probably will not be trying to use this unit in a window with blackout curtains. Another issue I noticed from other reviews was the reservoir filling very quickly. For the first week or two, we had no problem, and did not even need to empty it. But it was extremely hot during that time. When the weather was forecast to start cooling down and raining for a few weeks, I placed the unit on a raised surface, and put a small bucket beneath it. The manual indicates that tilting the unit while it is full could result in the water within the reservoir spilling into the unit, causing damage. As the drain is almost flush with the carpet, I was not looking forward to either of us having to try to haul this unit across the apartment to empty into the bath, as would have otherwise been the only option. I also was not looking forward to an alarm waking us up if it needed to be drained while we were asleep, as the entire point of this for us was to run while we are in bed, and be off for the rest of the time. When I drained the unit after placing a small tupperware bucket beneath it, very little water came out - less than a cup. The next day, however, it rained, and when we awoke that evening, we found the bucket had completely overflowed and made a giant mess on our carpet. We swapped out the bucket for a larger, 1-gallon one with a handle, to make it easier to empty. This unit filled this bucket to the brim, and still occasionally overflowed into the roast pan we put down to protect our poor carpets. The last few days, it has been hot again, and the unit has since returned to a very small dribble that evaporates over the time between waking up in the afternoon, and going to bed the next morning. I do not consider the water itself a fault of the machine, as there is little it can do to defy the laws of physics. It's obvious that the hose being hotter than the air outside the window is just causing quite a lot of condensation in the hose/unit. However, what I would consider a fault of the unit is way it drains. Had I known the drain outlet was at the very base of the unit, I would have probably gone with a larger machine that had a removable reservoir. We will likely be continuing to use through the summer, and then switching back to fans when the rainy season returns, because rushing to empty a gallon of water into the sink isn't exactly the best way to wake up each morning, and the alternative is being woken up by the alarm that sounds when the unit needs to be emptied. However, this machine definitely does its job. We do not have to be running several fans and swamp coolers in the bedroom in order to get a very restless sleep. Having a cool room has allowed us to sleep through the hottest part of the day without even noticing the heat. Buckets of water and emergency roast pans on the floor are a small price to pay for trying to sleep during the day in the summer.

It automatically reverts to dehumidify when you loose power

I purchased this product about 2 weeks ago after investigating so many portable ac units. It was very hard to connect the flexible tube to the back of the machine. After about 30 minutes I got it but I know if I move the machine it will come apart. That is really my worst criticism. The window piece was one inch too large so I had to cut it to fit. My window measures 35. This is made for 36 or bigger. Now for the part I wanted to keep saying "Oh no". It kept tripping the breaker but just for a few seconds each time. So when it came back on it automatically went to "dry" mode. Then in 3 hours it turned off again blinking that it was full of water. This happened 3 times before we realized it was on dehumidify. So we ran the cords to the TV and clock to another outlet and it stopped tripping and has yet to fill with water and its been 2 glorious weeks. It is not real loud. It is for my elderly mom who watches alot of TV and needs to hear said TV. She is very comfortable and we are very happy. Great purchase but it took us a couple days to figure it out. I highly recommend if you dont need to move it around.

Works great

I bought this to replace a smaller unit that broke. This unit works pretty good, but it's noisier than the smaller model and I can't say the larger size cools any better. I almost sent it back when I first received it due to shipping tape somewhere in the machine that I couldn't get to - it drove me crazy for month! But it was really hot in August, so I let it go. Then one day it stopped. Otherwise it works well.
