Very cute, but not a normal latch hook. Different tool and the yarn is not smaller individual pieces. This is more difficult to complete for me, but I'm still going to give it my best shot because its so cute I would like finish it.

Add me to the chorus that Latchkits Yarnimals Penguin-- Loop Your Own Plush Penguin-- Latchhook Craft Kit -- Make Your Own Stuffed Animal Toy -- Ages 8+ doesn't actually involve latchhook. I have other Latchkits crafts that I really enjoyed, but this one was somewhat frustrating. The looping takes coordination, especially through the smaller holes in the form. It is also easy to mess up already completed work since this looped yarn doesn't knot like latchhooked yarn. There isn't anything actually holding it in place. Even once completed, it would be easy for a loop to get caught on something and then unravel a great deal of work. Also, unlike latchhook, the form isn't painted with a color guide. There's a printed guide that has to be referred to, and figuring out exactly where some details go can be tricky. The end result is quite cute, but I'm not sure I'd call it huggable since the pieces can snap apart. This is more for display since it isn't the most durable animal.I think I'll stick to Latchkits actual latchhook projects.

This Latchkit Yarnimals Penguin craft kit I thought would be geared more for a child. But after receiving it the technique or lack of it is more challenging and probably more suitable for a tween or child with an adults help. Too bad as this isn’t exactly a latch hook project. Disappointed. Still makes a cute penguin though.

This is a cute idea, but incredibly difficult to do. This is not latch-hook in the traditional sense like the rugs. This is a looping process and the amount of coordination and finesse that you need to complete this is beyond what an 8-year-old possess. I would have put an age of 12+ on this and even then, I am not sure they could do it.The other issue is this is marketed as a plush. This is not a plush. If you wanted to hug it, it would crack and fall apart.

When I found it, I liked the concept and thought it would be pretty fun and challenging activity for my 7 years old son, but to be honest we both gave up on it. It’s pretty beyond the level of an 8 years old too I would say. I tried it but it’s kind of frustrating the latch hook is really hard to use and especially really hard to deal with smaller holes. A slight pull and you need to start all over again. I am still only able to do quarter of it I would say and don’t know when I’d be able to end it but I think besides all the frustration the end result would be worth something.Having said that all its surely not a toy for all kids only pretty few having interest in such crafting, and having quite a concentration and attitude stability would probably be able to do it. Wouldn’t recommend for any kid under 12.

It came with everything to make, but it's not as easy to do as I thought it would be. The latch stitch comes apart easily since it's not latching or locking to anything. I even went online and youtubed to make sure I was doing it right.

This yarn project was fun for my niece but not quite what we thought it would be. She had a hard time getting it but I helped her and she was able to get it done. I expected it to come with stuffing to make it like a stuffed animal but it does not.

The bear is alot of work for a little one. It takes alot of care to get it together and you have to have a patient child to do it. Once it's done it's not very cuddly. It's really just for looks.

Unfortunately this was too complicated for my 11 year old. I even tried to help her with it and had a really hard time getting it. I thought this would be a good starter kit for my daughter who wanted to try crocheting. The yarn in this was difficult to work with. It kept separating while the needle was trying to grab it.

The toy has very good instructions with multiple pictures and many tips on how to make the panda. I loved that they included the heart for practice and suggested to put it inside the panda before closing it so it has a heart. It is a cute gesture. It is quite time consuming craft and requires a lot of patience. They included "tool" which is a regular 3.25 mm crochet hook. It is as large one as could fit into the holes, but it is not large enough to effectively fit the yarn, and it often splits it and it is not good, especially for kids - might be too tricky. It needs better yarn and better hook - maybe a latch hook would be better if you can find one that would fit through the holes. The yarn can be better, too, this one is too splitty. The design areas are not marked on the panda shape, the instructions direct you to count holes. It is really easy to undo your work by accident, and the plastic canvas shape is slippery and yarn is not being locked when you stitch. They advice to double the loops from time to time to make it more resistant to pulling. The bottom line, the success will depend on your child - too young and they wouldn't be able to do let alone finish it, but older kids might not want to make such a silly and youngish thing, you would need better materials to attract the older auditorium
