I have a huge head (25") and was worried it wouldn't fit. It was really tight but I think it will stretch a bit over time because when I pulled on it it lossened up enough that it wasn't squeezing my brains out of the top of my skull. There is a discreet elastic buckle you can utilize for smaller heads but I disconnected mine for obvious reasons. I LOVE the ponytail hole. I have really long hair and prefer buns and ponies and it can accommodate both (if bun is done post pull through). That alone gives this hat bonus points because it is clear to have my hair off of my neck which is not the case whith my other sun hats lacking the pony feature. I would have to braid or low pony and its hot,, messy and uncomfortable so this is a HUGE plus for me. It doesn't provide as much sun protection as I was hoping. Imagine a baseball cap that goes all around your head. The brim is shorter than I hoped for or wanted (3.25 in) but its cute and will do an adequate job so I'm keeping it. I'll update after I do some hiking or yard work.

Yes, read the reviews and expected it to be for a small head. Perfect fit for me. I have no use for the ponytail opening but it does not interfere with wearing the hat if you have short hair. I only gave it 4 stars as it really isn't as cool as I expected. I get hot in the summer sun and hoped the venting might help. Still perspired like crazy. But, it is well made, very cute and, if you want a smaller hat, just perfect. This hat is not what I would call purple; more of a deep violet. BTW, I did remove the inner lining with scissors to see if it might be cooler. Too soon to tell. Before my alterations I could say this was well made!

I really like the concept and overall design of this hat. I have long hair so my ponytail is always an issue with hats. I feel like the quality is good for the price. Lots of colors to choose from. The mesh sides allow for airflow which is good. It's washable too. I don't quite understand why they used 2 layers of mesh on the sides and there are 2 layers of mesh liner inside the entire hat. It's not really needed. The adjustment clasp on the back is really flimsy and comes unhooked too easily. The chin strap is very cheap material. I think this hat is made from similar material that those reusable shopping bags are made from instead of real fabric. I'm taking it on vacation and will see how it performs. Again, this was a great deal and it will meet my needs. I just wish it were made a little differently. I would pay more for an improved version. *update: I took this on a cruise and wore it every day. Went swimming with it too. It was very comfortable to wear. I hand washed it once and then tossed it in the wash machine with my post-cruise laundry. It washed very well. The hat fit well (I have a smallish head so many hats are too large). Since this is Asian made, I figured it was designed for smaller people. I got 6 compliments on the style and color while on vacation. 2 asked me where I got it. I still don't entirely trust the strength of the chin string, but I didn't lose it so that's good.
