Osmo - Genius Starter Kit for Fire Tablet with 5 games came with old reflector. The old reflector does not work with Fire 8 tablet. During the set-up it says that the old reflector works with an adapter, but the adapter are not sold anymore! The makers have changed the reflector design in 2021 but these kits are still sold with old reflector.

*Update to original review we have received a replacement base that is fully functional. The review of the customer service remains to be pretty poor, but the replacement base is working well. My daughter loves her Osmo and the games she got with. She prefers the Detective game and has played it almost daily. Still bummed with how the whole experience unfolded, but pleased with the working base.I have to say we were very excited to buy an Osmo as a Christmas present. We bought the genius kit, a fire and five games from Osmo. My daughter's excitement was well worth it upon opening the present. That quickly dimmed when we opened it and were setting it up. One leg of the base is jammed and the release button is broken. Being this was her big present we are incredibly disappointed. So I immediately emailed Osmo customer service with a video and explanation of what was wrong. At first the reply was quick and they offered a replacement and asked for more pictures.Fast forward a week another response that it got mixed up in the holiday bustle and want me to try wiggling it and sent me the same video the thing plays when telling you to extend the base. I clearly watched the video. I sent a video of us wiggling it. Absolutely unbelievable that we have had this broken thing and a couple hundred dollars in games and it doesn't work right and their response is wiggle it? Even after I sent a video of us trying everything to get it to work. Thanks Osmo for turning our excitement and my daughter's Christmas joy into disappointment and heartache and then not caring enough to fix it.

We love the concept of Osmo and were so excited to get two bases for use in homeschooling. Many of the games are great... when they work. We have had our sets for a little over a month (just past the return window, of course), and they are now pretty close to unusable.Zero Osmo apps will load on one of the tablets; a few work on the other, but very spottily. We can't load Osmo Stories at all anymore, Coding Awbie worked just long enough to get my kid totally addicted and then crashed and will not relaunch, and the main app often has to be deleted and reinstalled to keep it from hanging. All these issues have caused a lot of tears and drama, and have made our homeschooling days pretty stressful. For the cost of this system, we are pretty disappointed. Also important to note: the apps all appear to be free in the App Store, but they aren't. Some cost as much as THIRTY DOLLARS to install the full version. On top of the price of the bases and manipulatives, this feels like a pretty dirty bait and switch, especially for something that works less than half the time. For reference, we are using a Kindle 7 with FreeTime. We quickly realized that using the apps in FreeTime mode is a nightmare because of all the restrictions. But we still have all the above issues outside of FreeTime.

Waaay too much wasted la-la cute screen time between math screens.Easy for unsupervised kid to answer the questions using whatever number plus one to get the correct answer or just move several tiles in front of the screen until the right total is reached. I removed all the zero and one tiles and required that only two tiles could be used to add up to the answer. Also, trying to use the dice tiles to add numbers: No dice with three, four or six dots. Really?

We got this as a gift for our son, and he can't even use it because the company left out an INTEGRAL (meaning the game will not work whatsoever without it) piece to the product called a 'reflector adapter'. The piece looks to be a thick rubber stopper to attach to the red reflector piece that adheres to the top of the tablet. So, now, we have to purchase this rubber adapter piece separately for $10. There is ZERO mention of this on any of the packaging, instructions, the amazon listing, nor when we purchased this product (I included photos to demonstrate that this is the case). The only mention of it is when you are sitting with your child, box open, tablet set up, and trying to play the game and it asks you to attach the rubber adapter (it has never asked us to do this before with the other kits). The disappointment from this is palpable. Not to mention, the other games from a previously purchased kit that used to work without this piece, now NO LONGER WORK without this piece. This piece should have been sent out as a free gift to anyone who purchased a kit, since the actual kit will not work without it. The fact that you have to purchase this piece, and that it is an additional $10, is disgraceful. I'm sad that the OSMO company chose to do this, since otherwise, it is a decent educational product. I will consider purchasing from a different educational games company in the future.

This review is for Osmo - Genius Starter Kit for iPad - 5 Educational Learning Games - Ages 6-10 - Math, Spelling, Creativity & More - STEM Toy (Osmo iPad Base Included).I was really excited for this product to help my kids with educational learning games. We own an iPad mini 5 and planned to use the Osmo with the iPad. Any sane parent has some type of case for their kids iPad. We have an Otterbox defender case for our iPad.Upon unboxing it was quickly evident that our iPad (with installed case) was not going to work with the base or reflector. In order to get Osmo to work, we had to remove our iPad from the case which is a big pain especially on the Otterbox cases. With the case off, we did try Osmo and the kids seemed to enjoy it although it seemed there was too much animation during transitions where the characters would walk around to the next segment. I could see my kids getting inpatient waiting for the next screen to load after the character walked around. They did seem to be interested in the games though.I don't know why Osmo doesn't develop a product that takes the case into account on the iPad Mini's which are mainly used for kids.In the end, we decided to return it because we didn't want to deal with removing the case every time we wanted to use Osmo. I have to admit I am disappointed in Osmo for not thinking ahead here.

We had to return it since it didn't come with the access code for the 2 games. Tried the other ones and it's pretty decent for learning
