Problems, but outstanding customer service (through seller)

UPDATE AT BOTTOM! Original review: This product is really poor. I made repairs to it and am keeping it because of the hassle of boxing it back up and returning it - and having to still find something else. But really, shame on this company for such sub-par quality control. First the positives: the heat is ample for this sort of appliance, and the overall look is good. The color options are plentiful and that is nice. The remote is fine, sometimes it isn’t so responsive when you press the buttons, but it’s cheap, so what do you expect? Now, the bad. The first thing I encountered when I opened it up: the top was slightly bent (on the right side you can see the top cover is not flush like the left side) and there appears to be something oily leaking out of the right side top where that damage is. I plugged the unit in to see how it worked and there was a very loud rubbing sound from something connected to the lights. I removed the bottom cover where the sound was coming from to see that the technology behind it is simpler than I realized. It’s a bunch of kaleidoscope-type shreds that spin on a spit, of sorts. This creates the flame effect. The kaleidoscope rod was rubbing against the plastic screen (which is the front “window” of the fireplace) because it was bowed so badly (see picture - that bow is supposed to be flat). Unfortunately, that’s not just because the plastic screen had slipped out of its enclosure slightly (it was only 1/4” out of place), it’s because the screen was cut too large and doesn’t fit properly. Not to mentioned that I was not physically able to slide the screen any further into its enclosure without the potential for significant damage. To correct this would require disassembling the entire thing (and resizing the screen), which appears to be held together by about several dozen screws. I wasn’t willing to take the risk of accidentally destroying the thing by trying to do this, so I resorted to using a strip of heavy duty Gorilla tape on top of the bowed piece of plastic to hold the screen flat against the frame and out of the way of the rotating kaleidoscope. So, once I did this, screwed it back together, and bent the top frame back into place to reposition it where it should have been in the first place, voilà: a decent and cheap electric fireplace that works ok. But good grief, am I right? It should have been $50, not $200. And a new unit definitely shouldn’t have taken up a half hour of my life to fix! Hope this is helpful to someone. UPDATE: The seller is really kind and promptly made every effort to make this right. I do believe the seller that this unfortunate occurrence was an anomaly. The excellent customer service has caused me to increase my rating of this purchase. I would even consider buying from them again in the future, knowing how receptive they are and how willing they are to ensure customer satisfaction. Congrats to this seller!

Not designed for recessed install

Pro: looks amazing when installed. The crystals really are a nice touch. I love how slim it is so it looks professionally installed in the wall. Cons: installing it in the wall to be recessed was a nightmare! The design is not meant to be recessed for 3 reasons: 1. The mounting bracket has you secure it on the outside edge where the wall is. If you cut open the wall to fit the fireplace perfectly like I did, there’s not room to work to tighten the screws on the side. 2. Additionally, the way you attach the front plate of the fireplace gets in the way of the wall as well. 3. Furthermore, the cord plug-in is way to thick to plug into any outlet inside the wall without a flat plug extension cord. It sticks out about 2 inches. It is kind of loud. It makes lots of popping noises and not the cute cozy sound of a fireplace. Overall, this fireplace is ok to hang on a wall but not recessed within a wall. I wish I knew these things before cutting my wall open and running electrical wires and an outlet inside the wall.
