Fancy web site and big claims for a mediocre product

Tile works fine for finding my keys so long as they are in blue tooth range of your phone. Other than that, this is basically a useless product that promises the moon and fails to deliver. It can give you a false sense of security thinking you can find anything you dropped during your day. I did some extensive testing and was very disappointed. I decided to contact tech service over a the fact my phone would not display the "lost" message that can be generated using the premium membership, which I cancelled today. Tech service is completely useless. I wasted 30 minutes with a guy who knew less about the thing then I do. The next day as promised, I received a phone call from a tech person in India. She was absolutely useless. It's all just smoke and mirrors. Eventually they emailed a set of generic instructions. Tile is selling a great idea but the product falls way short of reaching this ideal. If you misplace your keys in the house this thing is good for finding them. Beyond that....it's just a toy. Thinking you can attach one of these tiles to a valuable camera or piece of medical equipment and find it if it is lost, is a foolish error. At least that has been my experience.

Too many unintended find-my-phone calls

I've used the original tile on my key chains for over a year now and I liked them quite a bit. The new Mate version is much smaller, which is great. However, it comes with a new double-press to find your phone feature that is great in principle but poorly executed. During my first full week of use, I unintentionally activated the find-my-phone feature 6 times. Sometimes the keys were in my hand. Sometimes they were in my pocket. Sometimes I was at home. Sometimes I was in meetings where the disruption was rude and disrespectful to the speaker. To make matters worse, there isn’t a way to kill the call from the keychain and the power and home button on my iPhone won’t make the sound stop either. You either have to press one of the volume keys or log into the phone to kill the sound. I complained to the company and was told that there is no way to alter or disable this feature. They recommended disabling bluetooth on my phone, which is of course not an option. Regretfully, this set of Mate Tiles will be going back to the company.

Crowdfinding feature is useless, a cute gizmo useful only if you kind of know where you left it and are in the same room.

The company claims way more than it can deliver, forget about the network of Tile users that will find your Tile if you lose it. I had tested this thing in New York city, Vegas, and Los Angeles, all sort of crowded places, many airports in the USA and around the world and the crowdsourcing feature is BS. If you're close to the Tile and kind of know where you left it, it will work, a cute gizmo. Also the non-replaceable batteries is a scam. I guess their business model is yearly battery subscriptions. You know essentially you get a $1 battery every year for $15 or $21 and they throw in and "new" Tile for free. Go figure. I bought the 4 pack, needless to say I didn't renew them when they die, almost exactly 1 year after I bought them.

wanted it to be good...

There's only one real situation where these have ever been useful, and that's finding my keys around the house. That's the only time I lose my keys - and know generally what vicinity they are in (for them to be in bluetooth range) - and can hear the noise the device makes. For this purpose - they are useful - but not worth the cost. I lost my keys skiing this season - and despite having TILE - and knowing the general area I fell - I was unable to locate the keys. The reason - I hadn't used the app in a long time, and when I launched it, and update required me to ADD ALL THE TILES again. I can't tell you how frustrating this was. Problems: - Battery can't be replaced - you have to buy new tiles - Alarm sounds too quiet - Relatively bulky - Bluetooth range relatively short - The social aspect of other's helping you find your keys doesn't work because very few others actually have the TILE app installed and running constantly.

Very poor customer service .

When they work, the Tile is excellent. However, Tile customer service is VERY POOR. Even after paying to be a premier member, it very difficult to speak or communicate with a person from TIle when your tIle is not working. They do not respond to emails. For a premier member to schedule, a call does not work on the app, and finally, a call was scheduled when an employee was texting me, and Tile never called at the scheduled time. Very poor customer service when you have an issue with a tile that is less them six months old. The Tile breaks easy. They often need to be reset etc. to Bluetooth and do not work when you are trying to locate your item.

I will not continue to spend $100/ year to be a Tile user

We currently have 7 Tiles in our household. We have the Tile original, slim, and the new mates. I give them 2 stars because when your remote has been lost by the children or your wallet slips out of your wind pants down in the crack of your seat and console or your keys slid off the back of your dresser, it is very helpful in quickly finding your items… When it actually works. My number one complaint however is their business model markets them as an item that should be stuck on your baseball glove and your Xbox remotes, and every other loseable item in your house. I realize they would love for you to have 10 or 20 of them. But my complaint is the battery lasts a year and the pester you for months leading up to that year that it’s time to replace and they even offer you a discount but it 15 or $20 a piece for the replacement cost it is a roadblock to taking an existing customer that obviously liked your product and creating a long time loyal customer by charging you 15 or $20 a year per item for a battery replacement basically. My tile slim in my wallet is always setting off my phone accidentally when I sit on it. This causes the battery to die even quicker. I can not and will not continue to spend $100 per year to be a Tile user.

Kinda works, far from a slam dunk.

Looses a star because yet another company erroneously equating purchase with ongoing spamming request. It is a tool that may or may not help you find an item a given time. I think the best aspect is it can help you not search your house if your item is at your office for example. But as to if your item is in the second desk drawer in the den and not the top kitchen cabinet, this it doesn't do in real life. The chime is far too soft to locate in such a situation and the location granularity is if the item is within 100' of your phone's location or not. It is not made clear that YOU MUST KEEP THE APP RUNNING ON YOUR PHONE AT ALL TIMES. I'd say buy it if you'd like, KEEP THE APP RUNNING, but still try not to loose things in the first place. BTW, like nearly all tech nowadays, instructions are lacking so it's trial and error, web searching, user friends, etc. Hence my tip: YOU MUST KEEP THE APP RUNNING ON YOUR PHONE AT ALL TIMES.

annual cost for mediocre performance

I like the concept. I was given the tracker as a gift. I am always running late bc I can't find my keys or phone or both sometimes. The issues I have with Tile are: 1) battery is not replaceable; the Tile Mate has to be replaced each year; current replacement price is $15. 2) it only worked some of the time; around 1/2 the time the tile did not ring. The app would show that it was ringing but it wasn't. When I located my keys, they would be silent even though the app was still showing them ringing. 3) When it did ring it wasn't very loud. If my keys where under something like a coat, pillow or couch cushion, I could not hear it ringing until I moved the item off the tile. It did cut down on the time it took to find my keys but I still had to tear the house apart. 4) to find your phone not only does the bluetooth have to be on but also the location. I tend to have the location off so this funtionality was rarely useful.

The Tile system failed me when I needed it

I received the tile as a gift. I would been more disappointed had I purchased it myself. Installed the app and associated tiles for my wallet, car, and keys. I had my kids hide my keys. It took me an hour to find them. The problem is the warn/cold indicator is not precise, the dot on the map moves around, and the sound the tile emits is so faint it difficult to hear (even if it's right in front of you). You can not hear it wrapped in a beach towel as was this case. Continuous false alerts. This is the most madding aspect of the tile. Each tile has a button you can press to find your phone. So the tiles on my keys and wallet would set off the finder on the phone (playing the obnoxious little locator tune) when I sit down, reach in my pocket, or just breath wrong. It does this until you logon to your phone to stop it. It failed me when I finally needed it. One day it happened. I lost my keys in the house. To my dismay, I discovered the last tile contact for keys was 38 days ago and looking at the map of the last contact was in town. The tile was dead. After a couple of days I found the keys on my own. PROS none per my experience. CONS It is not a very effective locator in the best case. It uses bluetooth signal as the locator. The tile system failed me when I needed it (dead tile within a year of purchase). The tiles setting off false finder tune to your phone (this occurred hundreds of times). Tiles are expensive for what they do. I can't recommend the Tile to anyone. It's just not good enough.

here's my amazing user experience story

I'm not a verified purchaser as I bought 3 through a local cellphone store (rhymes with 'beemobile') when we signed up for service and got a couple of cellphones. But, here's my amazing user experience story. I had a Tile on my daughter's keys. She left them on a charter bus in Chicago after a school field trip. Never saw them again. Only hit on app was last location of bus parked in front of school. Nothing from the supposedly amazing Tile app community after reporting the Tile as lost. I'm sure that the bus went back to the yard, got cleaned out, keys tossed in trash and that's the end of Tile. Called bus company, asked them to check and contact driver and nothing there either. I have two more and I may do the battery replacement hack but I would never pay for another one of these things as they have huge limitations to usability and outside of the narrow use cases, they just aren't worth it. I keep trying to find use-cases for this but keep coming up short. Recently I clipped one to my daughter's collar so she could hear me 'paging' here while at a Dave & Busters because she wasn't hearing txt msgs or her phone ring. And that's about it. If you can't replace your keys for less than $25, you've got other issues. If you are constantly losing keys, remotes, purses, wallets, you might want to seek treatment. This product definitely falls under 'a fool and his money are soon parted' and I own quite a few gadgets and Apple products. If the idea of internet connected (sorry, 'internet of things', aka IoT which should probably be abbreviated as ID10T) socks or water bottles appeals to you, then this gadget may be your thing, otherwise don't bother.
