I am a Penguin
The deep-clean power to get fine particles and dust is truly spectacular. However, if you have even a short-haired cat, this roomba is no match. Sometimes, it leaves little balls of fur lying around--at least that's convenient for us to pick up by hand--though annoying. But in most cases, it'll only run for a few minutes before the cat hair blocks the sensor and it returns to its dock--saying it's full. Only for us to open up the cartridge to see merely a few finger's worth of cat fur--most of the compartment is still empty. In my most recent cleaning, I've emptied the cartridge four times (mostly empty EVERY TIME), and it still hasn't finished sweeping the upstairs. It's why I've decided to return this. My carpets are still unvacuumed. As my partner puts it: "If I wanted something to keep an eye on all the time, I'd have a kid." The roomba isn't doing what we purchased it to do--take a load off our mind. We started off with a cheaper model of roomba and exchanged it for this current one. We were pleased with the other model, but wanted something that could more reliably vacuum all corners. I failed to account that I had vacuumed with a conventional vacuum shortly before testing the other (and current) models. What really peeves me is that it doesn't even pick up the leaves my plants shed. It's a small thing. The leaves are about 3/4 inch long and less than half as wide when green. The shriveled-up, dropped pieces are even smaller should be easy for the roomba to gather, but they're still there after it's made a pass. This is truly just a novelty and does no heavy lifting. I originally wanted this for the dogs' room to do in-between vacuum sessions to pick up any small dirt the dogs might track in between my conventional vacuuming. I have an Alaskan Malamute and a German Shepherd. I never got around to testing this in the dogs' space because, as some might know, malamutes are notorious shedders--even more so than German Shepherds (who are notorious shedders in their own right). Perhaps for someone without pets or plants (or kids?--I imagine they're messy too), this is great to keep things clean. However, for those of us who like having active creatures and greenery, it's a pass.
