Smarter than older versions, and better with cat hair and rug fringe

I had 2 of the older roombas. The second one had the same physical design as the original one, but wifi control was added. This model is fully redesigned.Much Better:1. Beater bars don't constantly need to be cleared of cat hair!2. Beater bars don't get caught in oriental rug fringe. I can un-tuck my rug fringe!3. It can 'see' so it won't go down stairs without using the old electric eye things.4. Maps rooms so you can tell it where to go. I have litter boxes and pee pads in my bathrooms. I don't want it going in there. Great that I can have it run and have it skip those rooms.5. Rugs do feel 'vacuum cleaned' on my feet... you know that fresh, squishy feeling.6. Can handle getting onto light rugs decently. I have a few rugs where the rug tends to move/fold a bit when the vacuum tries to get on it. When this is detected it has a way to approach the rug at a more oblique angle and can get onto those rugs. It seems smarter in general to avoid getting stuck. Not Perfect:1. Still gets caught a bit under radiators or furniture that is just the wrong height. I do have to go save it occasionally. I now have a few bricks placed to block the worst spots.2. It does not fully respect the door dividers. It does clean a bit into ''other rooms".3. It is a bit noisy. But I can run it when I am out if I cleared the floors of cat toys.I ended up buying 2 of them. One for upstairs and one for downstairs.I am a bit creeped out that Amazon now owns it and may have vision into my home. That is odd.

Terrific. Only down side is the short-acting batterh

Only down side is the short-acting battery. But it cleans great, and I love that it maps the house, allows me to make two separate "rooms" out of the entire house for cleaning.

Works well, except on thin mats

I'm happy with my iRobot i3. All my floor is either vinyl or tiles, so I can easily see if the robot does a good job. It does. I noticed that, while it has no issue with thick and heavy mats/rugs, the robot tends to roll over thin and light mats/rugs, and then gets stuck on them. It also tends to mess my Ikea panel curtains. I worked around that by defining a zone where it must not go.

Great on hardwood & vinyl floors.

I love this little machine, it does great on my hard surface floors and does some good on carpet just not a deep clean. The reason for 4 stars is hair gets caught up and wound around the rollers underneath. It started to make a weird noise and eventually I popped out the rollers to find big clubs of tightly wound hair which took a while to get loose, and kinda gross. I’ve always cleaned out the dust receptacle but I’d not realized I needed to regularly flip it over and clean the rollers. That said, they are a breeze to take out and put in.

Very good product

We got a great price on this one and I feel it was well worth it. It cleans well, it isn't as noisy as previous roombas. We're happy with our purchase.

Mostly great, especially if you have pets coming and going through a dog door

(This is my second Roomba--my first being a 500 "Pet Series" machine, which has a larger bin but one inferior brush that needs to be cleaned all the time with the supplied tool (tedious) if you have dogs or you shed a lot yourself!)Now I have a new (old) house with zero carpet (all laminate and hardwoods), only a few rugs, and that makes it imperative to vacuum a LOT if I want to walk around barefoot or in socks--because you can feel and carry around the dust and particles on hard floors. So I let my new robot clean the areas (about 1000 SF) that are heavily trafficked (den, LR, kitchen, diningroom) and let the old one do the hall and bedrooms that are less dirty. For that 1000 SF that it has access to, it fills the bin (which is smaller than previous model) with dust and dog hair EVERY DAY. It is a bit of a pain to tap the bin out into the trash without spreading dust all over. And while the bin itself is washable, I do wish the paper filter on the side was washable--it only came with one extra and I'm guessing the replacements are expensive so I clean it with a toothbrush and my hand vac and tap-tap-tap out as much dust as I can to extend the life of the filter.I have two dogs--and a dog door--so they track stuff in from my yard, as do I, but a whole bin daily? It amazes me, and I'm glad I have this machine or I could never keep up! I love the silicone rollers, though I wish the arm that holds them in place would stay UP when you're trying to get them in and out. They're fiddley to put back in.I've noticed that it sometimes leaves rolled-up hairballs on a couple of tight-woven rugs, so I pull out my old corded vacuum once a week or so to give the rugs a good clean.Occasionally it stops or fails to run for reasons I cannot fathom, and/or gives an audible error code that I also can't find in the manual, which is annoying. I've had to restart it completely a couple of times in the past 5 months. And when it fails, I often don't realize it hasn't run until much later. But I do like that it goes back to recharge when the bin is full--which is daily, as I've said--and if I'm paying attention I will empty it so it can finish the job. Then it restarts and returns to where it left off which is cool. But all in all, I'm glad I have it because I clearly need to vacuum every day now and I ain't got time for that.

Great at what it does, but it doesn’t do everything

I recently got a dog that sheds *a lot* and couldn’t keep up with the vacuuming. Got the Roomba to help, and it’s made a huge difference. Instead of having to lug out the vacuum multiple times a week to keep the house liveable, I can just press a couple buttons and the hair goes away. I like that I can choose which rooms get vacuumed in the app, and the bin is large enough that it can get through the kitchen and living room (ie, the doggiest spaces) without me having to stop and empty it.Even though I’m happy with the purchase overall, it’s important to note that the Roomba can’t fully substitute for vacuuming. There are certain places it can’t reach due to its size, and other small areas it seems to consistently miss for whatever reason. There are also specific types of debris that it’s not great at picking up, specifically things that lie flat on the floor. But if you’re looking for something to help out in between vacuuming sessions, I’d definitely recommend this bot.Pros:Good app that is easy to useGood suctionGood battery lifeGenerally good navigation around furniture and over rugsSufficient waste bin sizeCons:Can’t reach everywhereWould prefer more customization optionsMisses/won’t pick up certain types of debris

Love it, but...

The Roomba is a game changer! I have two large dogs that shed, and before the Roomba, I was vacuuming twice per day, and it still didn't seem like I got the floors clean. The set-up was super simple. I didn't bother trying to map my rooms, but I did clear away some cords. It just sorta bumps its way around until it's time for it to 'go home' or gets too full. Which leads me to why 4/5 stars. It gets full quickly and needs to be emptied a couple times per day. The bin is easy to open, but be sure to check inside the machine to unclog anything in there. Overall, it's worth it! Having clean floors helps keep everything else clean so I don't have to wipe and dust as much as I used to.

Roomba proof your place first

I like this lil thing. It’s cut way down on the amount of sweeping and vacuuming I have to do. You still need to sweep corners and under lower furniture.Things to consider:It has a voracious appetite for thinner electric cords. It mostly navigates by bashing into stuff so lighter things like floor lamps can be an issue. It will follow you aroundIt does well picking up the fluff from our two short hair dogs.It is LOUD. Can’t run it at night.Sometimes it gets stuck in the most curious places.I highly recommend getting the clean base unless you’re at home and can empty the dust bin every 15 - 20 minutes. All in all I like it.
