This has been a great straightener for my thick curly hair. The steam really helps to set the straightness. I will say however that the cord is challenging. It’s short, kinks and tangles. If HotTools updates the cord this would be a 10/10

This Hot Tools Steamstyler definitely made my wavy hair straight with one single pass. I was impressed with that. I'm not too sure about the steam aspect of this tool. I did use the steam function and it seems to work just fine. I'm just not convinced that it's needed. Fortunately, this styler can be used without the steam option and that is how I prefer it.The tool itself has larger plates but it is fairly lightweight and easy to maneuver. I can also get a decent ribbon curl which to me is just as important than straightening.Overall, this steamstyler is a good workhorse tool which would be a great addition to anyone's arsenal of styling tools.

Nice light weight even when water added. I don’t notice a big difference in the quality of my hair using this versus a regular straighter. Hot tool brand always has quality products and this one works fine but not sure adding the water is necessary.

Hot Tools is a well-known brand. I knew of them through my hairdresser way back when. I started buying their curling irons and those work very well. I received this Hot Tools 1-1/2" steam flat iron and have been using it on my long fine hair. This is my first flat iron I have used made by Hot Tools. I appreciate the glove and the little water bottle for the steam feature. The steam reservoir is very small, and the water evaporates very quickly which you must keep refilling. I don't like the way my hair looks when using the steam. I have been using it without the steam, so I turned that feature off. The flat iron plates are purple and 1-1/2" wide which can straighten more of your hair. There are 6 heat settings from 300 degrees going up each setting by 50 degrees up to 450 degrees. I used it at 350 degrees. I like that there is a lock on the flat iron making it easy to travel with. A Velcro cord holder would have been a nice touch to add it to the cord and to keep it in place. The silicone protective pad in my photos shown is my own personal one as the company did not include one with the flat iron. I will continue to use this flat iron on my hair. I do not have any frizzy hair and it is easy to use.

This is the first steamstyler that I have tried. I have used several different Hot Tools flat irons before, but this was the first that included the steam feature. The thought behind it is that it can straighten your hair without using as much heat and damaging your hair less. I have noticed that I don't have to go over my hair as many times as I would with a standard flat iron. In order to use the steam function, you have to fill the water chamber every few uses and you can choose between two different steam levels. The flat iron on it's own works pretty well even without the steam. The plates can lock in a closed position, so it's convenient to store and it's dual voltage, so it's great for international travel. Overall, this flat iron works well and has the added steam feature, which seems to make ironing my hair a bit faster.

I'm truly in love with this Hot Tools steamstyler. This one is a game changer for me. This isn't like my ordinary flat irons. This iron straightens my natural hair very well. I also enjoy using if in my wigs. I'm very impressed with it's performance. I highly recommend not to mention the price is really worth it.

I like this flat iron a lot, the last one I ordered fried my hair so bad that my stylist had to put a leave-in treatment on me when I went to her. While I was in the salon I started doing some research on a straightener that delivered results without the damage, but also affordable. That search brought me to this one. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the water compartment on mine leaks and even on high I do not see much steam being utilized. I'm sure if I returned it they would replace it. *sigh* I can never make myself mess with returns though lol.

First time I’ve ever used one and it was very user friendly. However, it doesn’t work well on hair that has been hairsprayed. My curling iron works better for that. I’ll keep it and only use it when I freshly wash my hair and the curling iron on the other days.

The heat is FANTASTIC. Love the steam feature. The material slips down my hair nicely without leaving marks. I agree with the other reviews that are disappointed in the lack of grip. I have brutally thick hair and so overall it isn’t a problem but for anyone with thinner hair, this would likely not be your favorite.

Heats up to 450˚ Fahrenheit in less than 2 minutes and maintains the heat during use. I find that it takes me less time to straighten my hair because it is wider. I get more hair done at a time so it saves me time. Occasionally, I have to wipe it clean with soft damp cloth.
