Stopped working after 3 days **update 12-16-21**

I chose this item because it was advertised that it was easy to install, easy for older generation. I was able to have my daughter install it (but not the wired set up, that was too hard for her (she is 23 and tech savvy), and it worked for the next several days. then it stopped working stating that it was offline. It asked if we changed our internet password - we had not. It wanted us to do some type of reconnect to the internet. I feel like I just through away $179. **12-15-21 I was contacted by Ring Customer Service (Alicia) and she worked with me and was very willing to help guide me through the process. I was impressed that Ring actually cared enough that I was happy with their product! She made an appointment with me and called almost on the dot! She ordered me a Chime Pro which she believes will fix my issue with the internet connection. I have added a couple stars for their excellent customer service. Once I receive Chime Pro, I will let you know if that fixes my issues.

Hard to Install

I can't believe all the time we wasted trying to get this thing installed and functioning. My wife and I said many times that we wished we had never gotten started with Ring. The different service people we talked to were very helpful and patient with our struggles.

Only works half the time.

What a spectacular device. All of the features are superior to the competiting devices in many ways. However..... I did not have an existing doorbell to hard wire this camera to. I am dependent on battery power. I purchased a solar charger additionally to help extend the battery life. My battery dies in a matter of hours. It almost last as long as it takes to charge. Obviously if there is no power the device does not work as intended. I have tried my best to reach out to customer service using the app. The options do not provide assistance for anything other then versions of getting help with buying new accessories for the existing system and has wait times to speak to someone over an hour. Do not purchase this product unless you can hard wire it to power. Update: I was contacted by ring and after a discussion they decided send me a chime pro. It created a wifi network specifically for ring devices and was placed between my router and the front door. While my battery continues to drain at a rate greater then I would have hoped,the battery does last considerably longer. I am seeing 5%-8% loss of charge on a daily basis despite the continuous charge from the solar charger. I am purchasing an additional battery and have a third party battery charger so that I can keep my device always operational. All in all it is a wonderful security device that appears to be unrivaled in features and performance. My only wish is that I went to the trouble of creating the necessary wiring to get the version of this device that does not require a battery. Because it has been so difficult and costly after the fact to get the expected performance out of this device I have improved my rating to 3 stars from 1 star but will not be giving it the 5 stars I believe it may be able to earn under different conditions and repeat my last statement. Do not purchase this product unless you can hardwire it to power.

It’s a pretty good buy, I wish it was better

I’ve had this for quite some time now. And I really tried to love this product. But the truth of the matter is motion detection is super slow, so by the time I see who was at my door, the persons already walking away. Night vision, is not the greatest. The light in the hallway went out and overall it just didn’t do a great job, for what I was expecting. Yes the night vision you can still see a little bit, but unless there’s surrounding light to bounce off the subjects you can’t really see very well with night vision. Tech-support is pretty OK I really can’t complain I’ve only had to call them once. And the reason I only called him once was because I just figured but there’s nothing else they can do. The reason I had to reach out to their tech-support was because no matter how close, or far, my Wi-Fi is from the doorbell it seems to always have an issue with connecting. I feel that this technology should be a lot faster when someone rings the doorbell, and not have to wait over a minute to see who’s outside on your screen. So I guess I just had higher hopes of how this would be, and it’s just not what I like to see. When someone rings the doorbell it takes about it A minute maybe more for it to come up on my phone screen or my Alexa screen. The ring camera is so slow that I’ve had packages stolen from the front of my apartment door, and by the time the motion sensor kicks in, I am only able to see the back of the persons head, or should I say hoodie. So it totally defeats the purpose of having this.And a lot of the thieves to know that this device has that flaw and don’t care and go steal packages. I’m not the only one in this building who has one of these, and is struggling with that issue.

Good short term, bad longevity

Monthly subscription almost required. Doesn't seem to pick up Amazon drivers. Other delivery services picked up just fine. Lens cover peeled off after a heat wave. Will select a different video doorbell with a local storage option. Overall not a bad product, I'm just not a fan of subscriptions.

Planned obsolescence

2 years old and it's done a good job. And for the price point, I've got my money's worth. But as expected with services that are subscription based and release new models, it now drops from wifi periodically. Support is poor to access and it doesn't help much anyway. Nothing about my network or location has changed. The only solution is removing the screw in the face, disconnecting, and reassembling. Buy the newest model and don't expect it to last.

DOORBELL is good

Love it for the 20hrs it held up but it was the no drill mount that caused it to fall and break. So if you get the no drill mount than also go buy industrial double sided tape because that is stronger than the adhesive they give you and will stick in humidity above 35%. I am still waiting on call back to replace the broken video doorbell!!

Issue with Smartphone Compatibility

Bought wireless doorbell and spotlight/camera along with a chime and a solar panel for the in-laws. Everything seems to be quality, well made equipment and I bought Ring for my belief that everything would connect easily. Well, step 1 and we have a problem. Seems the Ring app does not work on an Android phone that is only 3 years old. If I had known this I would not have purchased Ring. In-laws have elected to do a phone upgrade so this may have a happy ending but I'm still disappointed that the "leader" in this market isn't more compatible with not that old smartphones.
