Does not stay connected to wifi

UPDATE: After reconnecting the doorbell to a different wifi signal, I have not lost connection in over a week. Thank you to the Ring support team for reaching out to me. *original post* I have sooo many Ring products including the entire alarm system. This is also my second Ring doorbell as I wanted to “upgrade “. This was NOT an upgrade! The doorbell does not stay connected to my wifi and I have to remove the battery at least every other day to reconnect. All my other devices stay connected so it isn’t my signal. And of course, this started after it was too late to return.

Installation issues

First off, the installation instructions tell you to use a 1/4" drill bit for the anchors. Don't! Use a 1/8" bit or the anchors will be too loose. Then, adding a second phone did not work. The software thought the 2nd phone would be the primary user and didn't work. The camera does work with one phone but we still haven't got the 2nd phone working. Disappointing!

Disappointed

Originally bought this so we would know when packages were delivered to the front door. The Ring doorbell never senses motion when you’re standing right in front of it, when a delivery person walks in front of it, or when you point directly into the camera an inch away! However, it detects my motion when opening the front door to get the package that’s probably been sitting there for hours. It has also detected me pulling out of the driveway in my car, but never detected someone stealing catalytic converter out of my car! Would never buy again.

Ring three is not reliable

Ring three is not reliable, The motion detection is inconsistent. The unit does not pick up everyone who comes up to my front door. Most notably, it failed to detect The Amazon delivery driver who walked right up to my front door and handed me a package. Appears to not work well in low lighting, i.e. cloudy days or at night.

For $100 more I get the exact same issues as the 2020 Release

Same pixelation issues, same missed events, same unavailabilty issues, except now I get several events that are nothing but a black screen. When it works, it's fine. When it doesn't, I'm left exposed. There's a reason we get video cameras for our properties and it working only half the time defeats the purpose. Now before anyone tells me it's my network, perhaps they can explain why my back door camera has zero issues on the same network. Exactly. Not to mention, I've gone over and above with switching to the fastest network available with over a gig download speed. Needless to say, this is being returned and I am done with Ring devices.

As long as you are patient!

The main issue I have with this video doorbell is the lag time on the motion sensor. I just brought my two small dogs back into the house. I came down stairs and was checking my email. After I had gone thru a couple emails the sensor finally went off telling me that there was motion at the door. I don't know precisely how long a time lapse there was. But, I am older and I don't move real fast. So, it had to be a few minutes to get down to the basement, get a pop out of the refrigerator, sit down at my desk, open my email program and check a few emails. That length of time while not completely useless, sure is bordering on that realm! The doorbell function works fine, as long as someone presses the button. But, if someone is delivering a package, there is way too long a time before I am notified. Porch Pirates have got to love it! :) Edit: I have to fair. I just took the dogs outside again and when returning, as soon as I opened the screen door, I could hear the alarm sound indicating motion at the door. It is just SO inconsistent! Sometimes it is instantaneous and other times there is a few minutes delay. Update 9/15/2021 I am reducing the rating to 2 stars. The time lag for the motion detection make that feature worthless. Example.... This morning I was going to the grocery store. I walked out the door and got into the truck. After driving 5-6 blocks (3 minutes or so), I got a motion detection alert. Since I was driving, I did not want to look at the video. So, I just turned around and went back to the house to see if a package had been delivered. There was nothing there. When I looked at the last video recorded, it was me leaving the house (5 or so minutes total prior to the alarm sounding). So, as far as I am concerned, the motion detection and alarm are worthless!!!! I suppose the recording could be used to prove who stole a package off the porch if that occurs. But, for anything else, not so much!!!

Meh

So far I’ve gotten endless notifications about neighbors harmlessly walking passed my camera but when I have packages delivered, or the maintenance man is at my door I don’t get an alert at all. There is no night vision whatsoever. I was told by an agent in customer service that I need to buy a wedge to get the camera to point downward so that I can see my package zone but I don’t plan to spend any more money anytime soon. It would’ve been nice to know this before ordering. Also the battery dies every couple weeks so you should just go ahead and purchase an extra battery when purchasing your Ring device. My device’s live view stopped working due to “low battery” even when it was fully charged. I was sent a free replacement but I’m not impressed with the product so far.

No notifications/ TERRIBLE SUPPORT

After installing the ring doorbell we became aware pretty quick that there was something wrong. The doorbell rings outside and it will record video but it does not send notifications to my phone. I have to randomly go into my app just to see if there's anything there. I tried to troubleshoot it on my own through Google and YouTube to no avail. I placed a call in to customer support and we went through every setting that could possibly be on my phone and in the ring app only to find everything was set as it should be. (Which was readily available with a simple google search) She started asking me about my phone And after answering those questions she said the problem was my device‐ Galaxy22+. That I was to call my provider because because it was something they have have blocked on their end. Even though I found this highly unlikely I called T-Mobile to which they said there was nothing prohibiting notifications from coming through . I also talked to a rep at my T-Mobile store and he said that he actually had to turn his notifications off because he was getting too many, so that wasn't the problem. When I told my ring support representative that it that wasn't my phone provider and that the only thing I can think to do at this point is just return the product and she said OK. She said it in a way Like well if that's what you want to do.... k bye 👋

Horrible Battery Life

Installation: During installation I discovered the face plate on my Ring did not sit snugly on the base of the doorbell. This made it almost impossible to get the security screw in. Battery: I saw some people raving about the battery life. I have had my doorbell for 37 days (just four days out of the return period) but only installed for 30 and already my battery is at 30%. If the doorbell was made better getting the battery in and out would be no issue. Since my faceplate does not sit flat in the doorbell and the security screw was such a challenge to get in (without it, the faceplate would not stay on due to poor craftsmanship) it makes taking the battery out to charge, a very tedious task. It should be noted, I charged my battery initially for 48 hours so there should be no excuse why it is dying so soon after purchase. I really wish I could return this— one of my most regrettable purchases to date.
