I should have paid more attention to the weight of this vacuum. Never even took it out of the box based on how heavy it was. Sent it back.

I purchased this vacuum June 6, 2020 and have loved it. It’s easy to use and navigate and cleans up well, regardless of flooring style - for reference, I have 2 toddlers and 3 dogs. I, however, have become super unhappy with it as a part (a screw) for the extension rod broke and I am not unable to use the vacuum at all. Not to mention, my one year old daughter found the broke end of the screw and had it in her mouth. I called shark to get a replacement piece (or vacuum altogether) because it was been less than a year since I purchased it, which is absurd for a $250 vacuum to break that quickly. They stated that their 5 year warranty doesn’t cover parts and that I would have to replace the part myself. Due to knowing how terrible their warranty is, I may end up switching to a different brand only for the peace of mind in knowing that they stand behind their product since Shark clearly does not. It is overall a great vacuum and has served us well. But for less than a year, I feel like the money spent was a complete waste for it to require me to spend more money on replacement parts that lasted 10-11 months.

What I liked is that this vacuum is super quiet, and since I was used to the Shark Professional Lift-Away, the maneuverability was fine. The suction is great, it works well on my carpet or hard floors, the hoses suction is good too. Lastly, the large cup also holds more that the Professional Lift-Away, and many of the other brands I have owned. What I do not like is the "advertisement" that shows the woman cleaning the stairs, signifying that the hose is long enough to reach that far...without any problems, i.e. machine tipping over. For one, it can't, at least not on the vacuum I received. The hose will stretch a little further with use, but not that far, and is very touchy on balance. It is the main reason I gave this vacuum a 3 star rating. The length of the hose was my main concern when I was comparing vacuums. The other con is that the cord is much too short. I can vacuum maybe two rooms, whereas before I could vacuum half my house. I loved my old Shark, started to buy another, but needed the hose length. Since that turned out to be not the case, I'm returning it. I thought I'd try it for a bit and see if maybe I could make it work out anyway. Not so, and I can't "lift-away" the Navigator. Sadly, I've only found one upright vacuum that has a really long hose, and won't tip the machine because it really is about 6' and stretches the other 5' very easily. If Shark would use the same kind of hose, balance the machine better, and lengthen the power cord on this machine, it would have been perfection in my opinion. If you aren't worried about the hose or power cord length, it's a 5 star.

I always have shark vacuums as a house cleaner. After a house fire bought this one as a replacement. Needless to say probably my least favorite vacuum so far would not recommend.

I provide professional housecleaning and have used several Shark vacuums over the years. This model caught my interest due to the beater bar technology. Self cleaning and better cleaning for homes with pets. It is heavier then a couple of my other models. I don’t feel it does a good job on rugs. Does not to have the suction or leave lines on carpet. It does however work good on hardwood, tile floors and low profile carpets. It is also a little louder then a couple of my other Sharks. Tools are of good use and generally the suction works well. Not overly impressive and I won’t purchase this style in the future.

3 1/2 stars I had my last hoover for 12 years. The suction on it was good all the way till the end, but the roller was not working and I figured rather than try to find a new roller and hope it worked, I would just upgrade my vacuum. I did a lot of research before settling on the shark, and asked a lot of friends and family what they recommended. I have used my brothers dyson and was not at all impressed, but had never tried a shark. I could have gotten the lift away for 70 dollars less, but I figured the power might be less and I don't have stairs or places I would need a lift away vacuum. In hindsight I wish I had just saved the money because I don't think there is much of a difference between the two. Pros: -The anti hair roller. It does work. I haven't had to de-clog it since I got the vacuum a few months ago. -The dust canister. It is really easy to remove and empty, even compared to other canister vacs I've tried. -The narrow profile. My last vacuum was too wide to fit in the teeny tiny hallway closet of my apartment, but this one can. -Reaching under furniture without hose attachments. Because of the canister position and low profile, you can reach most spots under furniture without the need of a hose. -Suction control. The switch from carpet to floor is easy to use, and the added suction control in the handle is very convenient for going over small rugs or near things that like to be sucked into the vacuum. Cons: -Weight distribution. Because they wanted a low profile for reaching under furniture and pivot rotation, all of the weight is in the center of the vacuum. You can make do for normal vacuuming, but it drives me INSANE when I have to use the detached hose. If you pull at all the vacuum will fall over, so you end up having to make sure you stabilize it or hold it while you are trying to reach somewhere with the hose. Really makes cleaning a pain in the ass. -Price. I think as Shark makes a name for themselves as a "dyson competitor" they have decided they can keep increasing the price of their products, without improving design. -Hose detachment. Because you are not simply pulling out the plastic hose, you are pulling out a long heavy metal pipe with the handle designed for PUSHING a vacuum, it is very unwieldy. The angle of the handle is not natural when using it as a hose, and it's exacerbated by the added weight of the metal at the end. I used to be able to pop out the hose of my hoover and snag something without adding a fitted attachment, and continue on my way. This is much slower and less convenient, and it is a design flaw. If I want the short part, it is very short and wide so I usually need to add an attachment. Then you have to line everything up perfectly to put it back into the vacuum. -The wheels. The wheels on this vacuum are a major design flaw. They are too small and placed in the center, sort of trying to mimic the dyson ball design without being sued I guess? They make a light vacuum hard to maneuver, and I don't think they will stand the test of time. Overall, I wasn't displeased enough to return it, but I also wasn't excited about a vacuum upgrade (and I normally would be).

I had a Shark Navigator for several years which I loved. I have four dogs, three are giant breed, long haired, and double coated. They shed A LOT. My old Navigator required lots of hair removal from the brush roller, which was why I decided to try this one. So: There are some design flaws, irrespective of how it works as a vacuum. 1) the receptacle for dirt opens for emptying at both top and bottom, which is fine. There is a handle on top which you hold when you open the bottom door. But there is nothing to hold onto while opening the lid at the top. I have to give the canister a one armed hug, lean over the trash can, and try not to dump dirt all down my front while opening the top lid. A nuisance at best. 2) While there is a setting for vacuuming hard floors, I have as much dog hair on my hard floors as I do on my carpets, and as the brush roll is not moving on this setting, it is not doing any self-cleaning. 3) This vacuum comes with three small attachments (crevice tool, etc.). There are “posts” to hold only two. The third has to find a home in the closet or elsewhere. 4) the clip to hold the cord out of the way while vacuuming does not, on my machine, hold the cord tightly enough, and it comes off several times while vacuuming. Now, my experience as to how it works as a vacuum, especially in a home with pets, as it is advertised: The suction is horrible. My old Navigator left a pattern so you could see clearly that vacuuming had happened. This one, I can’t tell where I have cleaned. If I go over the rug with a brush after vacuuming, I get A LOT more dog hair up. The vacuum does not come close to picking it up. I used to crawl around on my knees, using a brush before vacuuming with my old machine; a major reason for purchasing this one - I don’t want to do that any more! Too bad for me; this thing does not save me that hassle. The “self cleaning” brush roller does sort of self clean…but unless I vacuum every single day, there is too much hair, it wraps around the roller, and I am back to cutting it off with scissors as I had to do with my old Navigator. It doesn't wrap as tightly, so it is easier to cut loose. The instructions say if hair does wrap around, just let the machine run for a bit to let it clear its self. Well, perhaps, but it doesn’t happen in 2 minutes, and I won’t stand there for longer; either it works or it doesn’t. And for me, it doesn’t. It takes me longer to vacuum my 12 x 15 carpet with this than it used to take to do my whole house with my old machine. And the frustration factor is high, because this beast does not do what it claims. Also, the cord is a bit shorter. I used to be able to reach my entire house, only changing to a different outlet once. I have to use three different outlets with this one. Of course, I realize the manufacturer can’t accommodate every customer’s outlets, but it is just one more frustration. The one thing this does do very well is vacuum my area rugs. They are all over my house, providing traction for my elderly dog. Because the suction is adjustable, it does work on the area rugs and runners without lifting them off the floor. But it is not worth the money this costs, just for that. I will be buying another Navigator like my old one, but this version is useless to me.

We've had this vacuum for three years now and it's been okay. Dumping out the bin each time we're finished with vacuuming is fine. It's suction has always been fine but not great. It maneuvers fine but it's not easy. It doesn't feel durable, which leads me to our biggest issue, the handle simply disconnected. It's hard to push a vacuum back and forth when the handle just comes off so I had to get a bit creative and duct taped the bar and plastic handle together so it could still function. In the second picture I uploaded, you'll see that it has a function that allows you to disconnect it from the handle and attach something to it but it's not supposed to just disconnect where I taped it back together. It certainly made it cumbersome to use when I had to push it back and forth on the carpet. The second picture also shows a handle below where you pick up the dirt bin to empty it out. Well, that's where I had to hold the vacuum when pulling it back to me when I used it. Push with the top handle, pull back with the dirt bin handle. Was expecting more from something I paid $200+ for.
