Really messed me up this year!

I have always enjoyed your software and it worked well for me, but this past year really messed me up. I am a realtor and have a lot of schedules and documents and when I couldn't get it to file on the 14th it took a lot of work pain, stress and strife since I had a busy day on the 15th and I had to work around all that to get these filed and perform before the post office closed.

Might have lost refund with H&R Block

H&R Block asked questions during the interview for tax credits and skipped the American opportunity credit. Parallelly, my daughter was playing around with FreeTaxUSA.com and got the American opportunity credit and filled the tax return with them free of cost. Had I filed with H&R Block, I would have lost the refund money. Defective software.

Very Confusing online VS download version and $

Starting about in November, the reduced offers start coming in. I am certain I purchased one version with a reduced price, yet when trying to find the link to download later in late Jan I was unable to get the product I wanted which was the download version on my computer. So I start my taxes online and then later receive another offer because of an affiliation and I purchase the download version and do my taxes. Except for figuring out which platform (online or download) and actually paying twice, one for download and one for online the software once you get it is easy to use. Since this happened to me two years in a row I will not recommend to others.

could have a simpler user interface

I have used TurboTax several years and liked the simple user interface, but thought I'd give H&R Block a try since it appeared cheaper this year. However it did not seem as simple to work with as TurboTax, especially in going back to make corrections. Overall it did not seem as seamless as TurboTax.

Refund Hung up in Veriify Return

I filed electronically on Feb. 20, 2024. On a letter dated March 13, 2024, the IRS requested that I verify that I really submitted the return and that I am me through IRS.gov/Verify Return. I did the verification process successfully within a week. As of May 25th, my return is still in the review process. How can they not know I am me?

A dramatic downturn in performance

I have used the H&R software for years. This year my return was rejected twice due to missing forms required for completion. Then there were difficulties using the return direct deposit feature. Makes me wonder if you guys are trying to get users to migrate to your new on-line service.

Could be better

Overall, the software works, but it does shave some issues that are quite annoying. One of the major items are doing corrections or changes. The program makes you go though all of the next steps to get to the end. This is especially annoying when you make a change at the end of the form.

Comparison to TurboTax income tax software

The H&R Block Deluxe+State tax software is a decent program, but has several shortcomings, compared to the TurboTax program. For example, the H&R program does not do as good a job dealing with line-by-line entries from K-1 forms. Another shortcoming with the H&R software was finding the correct way to enter a long-term capital losss on a land investment. I had to try several approaches before the H&R software would accept and enter the long-term loss on my land investment that I sold last year.

Needs Work!

With the challenge of the feds offering free online tax filing you guys need to step up your game! Required entries from previous year Iowa returns missing from transfer. Had to wait for several updates to confirm transfer of refund. You're now at my lower confidence level.

Good Program but Flaw

A good income tax program for individuals. One flaw, on charitable contributions of property. If you change the amount of property donated, it doesn't change the figure from the original one entered, it holds on to the original amount, resulting in incorrect charitable contribution of property.
