I have used HRBlock for several years, now using Deluxe though I used the premium in the past when spouse was self employed. Results seem to be good. No contact from IRS, generally. Embedded Help is useful, but not always specific to my situation. The included call support helps bridge that gap. Primary irritation is the updates that trickle in deep into the tax preparation cycle. It is not obvious if the (pending) update will impact my return. In some cases, I have the "interview not complete, update pending" message in areas which could impact my return. If I owe money, I am OK waiting closer to 15 April, so this is a minor problem. If I will receive a refund, I have to decide whether to proceed at risk, or await the updated interview software. There is typically no ECD provided by HRBlock for the update, though April 15 is a drop dead date, I suppose.

I've used H&R Block Deluxe software for 10+ years, and find that it's accurate and fairly easy to use. Though generally satisfied, several enhancements would improve the software. First, the ability to print returns using both sides of paper would reduce waste. Second, answers for some topics don't provide enough depth to allow preparers to understand; more detailed explanations with links to IRS publications would prove helpful. Although H&R Block does an excellent job of tracking new legislation and providing updates as tax regulations change, the software itself could be more robust and user-friendly. The general framework doesn't appear to have been upgraded since I started using it in 2002. It's "stale" and could be improved without losing compatibility with prior-year returns.

I am a H&R Block Deluxe for many years, it has wonderful features and values, very easy to use. The only thing needs to improve, in my view, is the software update details. Even after I completed fed and state tax returns (submitted them and the returns were accepted) already, when the software is restarted, first thing it is still checking and asking for new update. Most new updates should be irrelevant to most people, but quite annoying. You might need to classify updates in categories: emergency, major, minor, trivial, etc., and/or provide more details about the new updates, to give people better idea how to deal with the updates after completing the tax returns.

I have been using this product for taxes for at least 5 years. After gathering the information and entering it, I found that I needed to take the standard deduction. The effort I took to gather and enter my medical expenses was unnecessary. I would prefer if the tax software would give you clearer instructions to determine if the itemization effort is really necessary,

I have used this for years and it's very simple to use. The only thing I miss that used to be a feature of the software is the Chat function. As a result, I don't believe the Help function is as easy as it used to be. That said, I will continue to use this software.

Problem to prepare
I use it block tax software because of its ease of use and step by step building to completion. I was disappointed in how long it took to be able to complete the return because it took so long to get all the forms in the program because they weren't ready to submit. While Block pointed to the Government I knew people who submitted their returns including those forms. The particular form that held me up until mid February was the energy credit form.

I've been using this product for more than 15 years - that says something! If your taxes are simple OR you understand where your money comes from/how it is categorized, this is the product for you. If you want to throw all of your receipts and bills in a box - hire an accountant. I believe that it is important to know HOW to do your taxes, by hand, then chose to use a product like H&R Block to make it easier by adding the columns and reminding you of important deductions or sources of income. Warning -- if you use State tax credits or something else funky, this product will do the calculations; however, you will need to print and mail in the forms to the state.

I would like to see better instructions and insight when it comes to IRAs and 401k income reporting for both the Federal and State level. There always seems to be a field or two that leaves one to guessing what is being asked that the help screens do not answer. The 2023 filing was flagged for an audit that was eventually released with no questions, but it would be nice to know what sections generated the concern.
