Been using this for years and is always accepted by IRS. But as I depend on it to crunch the numbers I feel a loss of what goes where. This year my taxes were higher than last year. Although I had a few thousand increase in income I figured with the increase being withheld it would even out. It didn't and as I tried to delve into why, there seemed to be no satisfactory clear links to answer the question.

I use this software on a yearly basis and normally would give it 5 stars but had a problem back in early 2021 when I was preparing my 2020 taxes. This has not been resolved still to this day and I am owed money from the IRS due to a software problem back then. I have not received the money yet from the IRS.

Most everything is straight forward- including rental property. The area I would like to see improved is IRA / Required Minimum Distribution / Qualified Charitable Distribution / Conversion to Roth. The data entry screens are not easy to find without a lot of IRS knowledge. I like to model my Charitable Giving and Roth Conversions- to use as a planning tool to minimize my taxes.

I still find that some data is not always carried to the actual forms even when you put all the data into the interview portion of the program. Means I really have to actually know more than I like about taxes and review each form to make sure that a claimed and entered deduction actually carries to the tax form and then computes across the series of forms. H&R like other firms looking for accolades is asking if I would recommend this product, I do not. However, I will tell someone who asks what I like and dislike about the product, but I am not going out on a limb and push the product to them.

Was disappointed that I could not complete my forms unto Feb 22 because of an undisclosed update problem. It allowed my state tax fee to be charged on my original attempt on Feb 16 but would not let me file for some undisclosed reason. Very frustrating though I was not double charged it was confusing and very frustrating

Electronic filing kept kicking the return out with an odd error - support kept me on the line for an hour without resolving the issue. I asked - what if I chose to PAY additional for the "free" included filing - would I be refunded instantly? I was told yes. Turns out, every time I attempted to file, it charged me for the State e-flile (not included) + one time for the Fed filing. It took weeks to resolve & reverse the fees, nowhere "instant" the support promised.

The last part of the program is a little confusing. I would make the planning part easier to understand. The part that plans for future estimates is very confusing. I always have to do it manually. Also, the Quarterly Estimated forms should be available to print as a convenience fo the user.

Have been using HRB tax software since they bought out the brand I use to use (TaxCut). In total I have been using tax software for over 35 years. I prefer standalone tax preparation software that is why I still use HRB. I'm disappointed that they are beginning to partner with Google, because I fully understand Google's business model (collecting personal information for resale and targeted marketing) and the fact the Google has been hit with so many European lawsuits for privacy violations. I'll be watching how close HRB and Google become. After all the years of using HRB tax prep software, I would be reluctant to have to change vendors. Will have to see what becomes of the trend to partner to Google.

I have used this for many years. This year is the first year I have experienced an issue. My federal return is always fine. This year I did my state return twice to make sure it was correct. When I filed with my state I learned that it was incorrect. So, I went back and ran the software program again and it still ended up with my initial results not the one my state accepted.

Even with investments, the software made my taxes fairly easy. There is one annoyance, however. If in the past, you've ever checked the box for "Wages paid to a household employee", even if you just wanted to see what it was about, you will never, ever be able to uncheck that box again in future years (or at least I couldn't). You're forced to go through the topic every year (assuming you load your prior year's return) thereafter no matter what. Not sure what the reasoning for that is or if it's just a bug, but for me it's becoming a major annoyance. Just allow the box to be unchecked (without any data entered) and skip the topic!
