I have purchased two of these devices and I have to replace both due to a variety of malfunctions. Nice in theory but is not reliable.

I have two other Nest thermostats, which were pre-Google thermostats. They both work great...no problems at all, had them for years. Easy to set, easy to change, easy to see what you want to see. This new mirrored Google Nest thermostat is such a pain. No matter what I do, I can't get it to just stay on one temperature (manually or on apps through either Nest or Google Home). If I leave my office, it goes to "leaf" mode (because it watches me) and raises the temperature by five or more degrees. I have a lot of computer equipment in my office that needs to stay below a certain temperature. Also, I've only had it installed a few weeks and it stopped working because it ran out of battery life. ?? Am I going to have to change batteries every three or four weeks? New and shiny is not always better, and this is one example. Argh! So frustrating.

Easy to use but so frustrating when it decides to change the temp when it doesn't sense motion. When I'm sleeping I like a cold house. I set the temp to around 68° night. There have been many times where I wake to a hot house because the thermostat didn't sense motion so it increased the temp to 80°.That eco temp says it's adjustable but I have adjusted it several times only to find its been readjusted to a higher temp. Also hate that it doesn't have a fan feature if I just want to circulate air without the heat or ac on.Have had this for a year now and I am looking for something to replace the nest.It also has a sense when home feature that should sense you're home from your cell phone. It doesn't work other than when just walking into the house. It looks nice but so frustrating.

My biggest issue with this thermostat is that it does not support any features thad will set an allowable temperature range that can be set, or a temperature lock feature. So it if very easy for a guest or a malicious actor to abuse your home’s HVAC system. Even my dusty old honeywell thermostat had this capability.Otherwise it is a decent thermostat.

This thing is absolute trash. I've owned multiple nests, when google bought nest, they started this deceptive marketing thing making this one half the price, not disclosing clearly that it won't work with your other nests on the nest app, and that it is a completely different product with the nest name just slapped on.I have it at my lakehouse and guests simply CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE IT. Instead of spinning the whole thing intuitively on the outside to change things like the normal nests, you have to know that only the upper right quartile takes input (try explaining that to your average person). It requires a gentle, specific touch only there, and it has a sharp edge that means you're touching a part you can't really see. That may sound like a subtle difference, but try explaining it to 10 different people of varying ages and tech ability. Garbage. Also, personally I have a charging issue with one, says low battery forever but still works, so displays dim, possibly a manufacturing issue. Most frustrating is it uses the google home app in an effort to force you into their ecosystem with no benefits. It is absolutely miserable to use. I can't get my own thermostat off of eco mode. It lets you hold some modes indefinitely and others not. The interface is complicated and crap. DON"T BUT SPEND THE EXTRA FOR THE REAL NEST. Check your local power company, they may sell the real nest at a large rebate for 'power saving' reasons.

We have been more than frustrated with our nest this summer. The nest has been going into “ECO Mode” which sets the house to 86 when it believes the house is empty. We have tried disabling this feature with no success. A few search online will show this is a systemic problem. It has gone into ECO Mode while we are working from home and have not walked around in a while. We were coming back from vacation and set the house to a comfortable temperature a few hours before we arrived, it started cooling the house but then went back into ecomode because “no one was home”. We came back to an 86 deg house much to our disappointment. There are much better options than the nest, chose one of them.

Mechanically this is much more difficult to use than the old nest. The same goes for programming. For some unknown reason it changes the air conditioning to 85° several times a day without prompting. It goes into Eco mode even though I have it disabled.Very disappointing
